Chapter Two
Amy awoke suddenly to the annoying sound of her alarm clock, which blared loudly, signaling her to wake up. The shrill noise pierced through her dreams, dragging her back to the present. Groggily, she reached out with a fumbling hand to silence the alarm. As her eyes adjusted to the dim light of dawn filtering through the curtains, she glanced at the clock beside her bed. Her heart sank when she realized that she was significantly late for school. Panic surged through her as she quickly sprang out of bed. The room was in disarray, a chaotic mix of books scattered around and clothes piled haphazardly on the chair. With a quick, anxious look at the mess, she dashed towards the bathroom, her mind racing with the day's looming consequences.
In the bathroom, she began showering rapidly, the hot water splashing against her skin, attempting to wake her fully. Simultaneously, she tried to brush her teeth, her movements hurried and slightly frantic. She stood in front of the mirror, frantically lathering soap on her body, all while trying to organize her thoughts. She contemplated everything she needed to do for the day—homework, tests, and the impending confrontation with her school's strict principal. The minutes seemed to slip away faster than she could manage, and the anxiety of missing school loomed large.
After finishing her shower in record time, Amy threw on her clothes with swift efficiency. Her outfit, though hastily chosen, was at least appropriate for school. She headed to the kitchen, determined to grab a quick bite before running out. She reached for a piece of hot toast that had just come out of the toaster. It was too hot to handle, so she kept tossing it in the air, catching it with a deft hand, trying to cool it down. With each toss, she could feel her heart racing faster, her anxiety about being late growing more intense. The thought of facing the principal, who was known for his intolerance of tardiness, made her stomach churn.
With remarkable speed and urgency, Amy managed to get ready and fled her house. The streets seemed to blur by as she sprinted towards school, leaping over sidewalks and dodging obstacles in her path. Her breath came in short, sharp bursts, and her mind was a whirlwind of worry about whether she would make it in time. The familiar buildings and faces of her neighborhood seemed to pass by in a haze as she focused solely on reaching her destination.
Upon arriving at school, Amy was met with a daunting sight. The principal was standing at the school entrance, his expression a mix of stern disapproval and frustration. He was scolding the students who had arrived late, his voice echoing through the crisp morning air. His face was a mask of displeasure as he noted the names of those who had failed to be punctual. Amy felt a pang of fear and anxiety at the sight. She shivered involuntarily, her nerves on edge. Determined to handle the situation as best as she could, she quickly pulled out her green book from her bag.
