Chapter Three
Victor, a high school student working full-time at a gas station, was known for his dedication and hard work. His life was a constant flux of change, with only his job at the station remaining a steady anchor. Victor preferred working the evening shift, enjoying the peace and quiet that often came with it. His punctuality, seriousness, and loyalty to the job had recently earned him a promotion to supervisor during the night shift.
The night had already stretched late, and the streets were nearly empty. Victor was alone at the station, quietly finalizing the day's accounts. His mind was focused on the calculations when something unusual caught his attention through the large front window. Three notorious boys from town(Michael, Leo, and Rafael)stood in the shadows just outside the station.
Michael, with a long history of theft, had been jailed three times for his crimes. His partner in crime, Leo, had been imprisoned twice. Rafael, a known drug smuggler and member of the Mexican cartel, completed the dangerous trio. These three were well-known troublemakers in the city, and seeing them together at this hour was a worrying sight. But what truly alarmed Victor was the sight of a young girl they were pushing towards a secluded area behind the station.
The girl, who appeared to be no older than seventeen or eighteen, was in distress. Her eyes were wide with fear, and her weak cries mingled with sobs of desperation. Victor's heart raced as he watched her resist, but her strength was waning, and she was no match for the boys. A sense of dread washed over him. He knew he couldn't stand by and do nothing.
Without a moment's hesitation, Victor reached into his bag and pulled out a peculiar item—a golden book. The book's cover was adorned with intricate designs that pulsed with an eerie, otherworldly aura. This was no ordinary book, and Victor had a deep understanding of the power it held.
He had acquired it under mysterious circumstances a few years back, and although he had never fully understood its origins, he knew it possessed strange and potent abilities. Victor had only used the book sparingly, unsure of its true power and cautious of the consequences, but tonight, he felt he had no other choice.
Taking a deep breath, Victor stepped out of the station and quietly approached the corner where the girl was being restrained. As he drew closer, he could see the boys binding her hands with ropes, pressing her against the cold concrete wall. Her eyes fluttered, and she appeared to be on the verge of fainting from sheer terror.
Victor's grip on the book tightened. He couldn't bear to see the tears streaking down her pale face. Her sobs were fading into silence, and he knew time was running out. With trembling hands, he opened the book and began to write quickly, scrawling strange symbols and words that he had never learned but somehow instinctively knew.
