SPENCE WAS SITTING in a small boardroom where he was surrounded by the military.

"You're telling me that you are going to bomb the university? Why? Most of the zombies are gone now. No thanks to you. You took your time getting here." Inwardly, he was proud of himself for standing up. Which is what he should have done when Fifi asked him to do harmful things.

Gee, the female pilot who had rescued him, was seated across from him. "Not true. From overhead, there are about one hundred zombies circling the university, just waiting for the chance to eat some humans."

"Only one hundred? Then send the troops down there. Why destroy all these buildings?"

She grimaced. "In case you hadn't noticed, there is more to Manila than the university. Our troops are out fighting the zombies. We simply can't spare any for a university that is almost devoid of human life."

Spence grimaced. "But there are still people living on the campus. Students. I saw for myself." He neglected to mention the part where Fifi had actually killed a lot of them by feeding them to the zombies tied up in the basement.

"Unfortunately, there are innocent casualties in war," replied Gee.

"Yes, but the campus is quiet right now. It would be simple to drive me back there and warn anyone still living. There are even supplies there that could help people here in the city." He looked at her.

Strangely, none of the other soldiers surrounding her agreed with him. They all appeared to be on her side.

Spence stood up. "Then let me go and warn them first. When will the strike be?"

Gee looked at the other members of her unit. "Later tonight. When it's dark out. But sorry, we simply cannot allow you to leave and warn anyone. We're keeping this under wraps." When she looked up, she saw that Spence was no longer in his spot.

He was running out the door and into the hallway.

"After him! He must not escape!"

Spence hit the stairs and took them three at a time. "Their compassion is amiss," he muttered to himself. "Guess they don't have children there."

He ran as fast as he could down the path to the trees beyond. He heard sounds behind him.

"What the heck is going on?" he screamed to the trees. This was how he would make reparations to the people that Fifi had hurt. He couldn't bring them back, but he could warn his new friends at the University that something was coming. He'd get everyone to safety before the campus was destroyed.

Ahead of him, he saw a bicycle. It looked like it was sturdy and for adults. He quickly hopped on and started peddling. He was kilometers away from where he needed to be, but he'd get there somehow. Maybe he'd find a motorcycle or a car along the way.
