LISA HAMMERED the last nail into the wall. "There, done!" She tugged on the canvas barrier, then shifted it aside to peer in at Eduardo's nest.

"Good job! But I could have done that for you," he replied.

She glared at him, so he motioned with his finger that he was zipping his mouth shut. He smiled. A year ago Lisa didn't even know what a hammer was, and now she had more trades expertise than he did.

"Wow, good job, Lisa," said their other friend, Solomon. He was the quieter one. Still, the team of three got along well with each other, as their personalities were all different, and they kept each other on track.

Lisa looked up at the rafters. "Actually, well-built, and kind of nice. I'm going to carve around that vent up there and build us a window."

"Hey, take a break," suggested Eduardo. "You don't need to build us the entire ark today."

Lisa and Solomon laughed.

There were some sounds coming from below them. That was where the library was located. Since both the men's and the women's dorm room buildings had been burnt down, they hid up in the attic of the library for safety. There were a few other humans still living on the campus. For whatever reason, they stayed there.

Lisa sat back and thought. "You know, I really miss my family. I want to go and find them."

Solomon nodded. "Same here. Things are settling down. We should do it, maybe tomorrow? I'll bet Eduardo could hot-wire a car and we could drive there. Would be so much safer than a bike or motorcycle." He looked over to where his backpack was.

Eduardo stood up. "No, absolutely not! It's still not safe out there! If we had some machine guns, then yeah, we could. But we don't."

Solomon looked annoyed and motioned him to sit down. "Okay, Dad."

Lisa suppressed a giggle. "You have no say in what we do. We can ask you for advice though."

Eduardo grimaced. "I'm not telling you what to do. I am your friend, and I love you both. I don't want anything to happen to either of you."

They were silent for a while. "Fair enough," Lisa replied. "But we will be going back home at some point."

Eduardo nodded. "And if so, then I will help, not hinder you. But, we are safe here."

She nodded. "Yep. And we have a year's supply of candy and ramen noodles."

Eduardo laughed. "Don't forget that closet full of Tuba we found in Mr. Vivo's closet!"

"Ew, hate that stuff," said Solomon.

Lisa smiled. "Consider it therapeutic. The alcohol content should thwart some of the zombie infection."

Eduardo was about to ask her if she was getting back to work on the vaccine cure. But he thought he'd better keep his mouth shut after nixing their "family visitation" plan.

"Hey, what's that?"

There were loud screaming sounds coming from outside.

"And you want to go out," said Eduardo to Lisa, forgetting to keep his mouth shut.

"Meow!" she said back at him.
