History would've been your favorite class, if it actually taught something useful.

Your teacher never mentioned anything about this guarded territory you lived in. Especially of your government, where the members were still unknown to public eye for decades. Or, that was until Mattheo adamantly admitted to being one of the members.

Along with Leta and Ezra.

Never did he go further into detail about the system after his confession. You knew it would be futile to pry out another member; it would only raise his suspicions of you and you couldn't take the chance.

You needed Mattheo to get your freedom. You'll use him like he will use you.

He trusted you so quickly that it made you weary.

However, not weary enough to refuse him. You learned that there was a world out there, somewhere that you wanted to go. Away from everything— it gave you hope.

The only people that proved that there is civilization beyond from where you lived was foreign exchange students. Jun, at the matter.

Every year, the government brought a group of people into society. You didn't know the exact process of the system, how they gathered the people and where they traveled.

The groups varied from children to adults, and they often did not come alone. It could be a set of family, a pair of siblings, or lovers entering the land.

The amount of people incoming was inconsistent. It often was no more than 50 people.

Each year it was televised. You remembered a year ago, the first time you watched the event unfold. Seeing every new person walking down the steps of the white, big plane. The only evidence that helped you know that airplanes do exist.

Each person held no suitcases or luggage's in hand.

It was random. The group of people chosen were random. You saw many people walk down the steps, all looking different from one another. Different races, different sizes, emotions, genders— it was all odd.

The system played out like a life size claw machine. The claw taking a handful of people, dropping them onto the land you lived on. Dropping them so carelessly to now live their new lives, forever.

The reason for this event was for population. Apparently, just under 400,000 people currently reside in this land. It was smaller than what the government wanted. They wanted more people from different areas. Countries to be exact. The more diverse the better.

There was still many problems with the system, many questions that you knew would remain unsolved. Nobody said anything. Jun told you that nobody did, and now you realized it fully.

Even with Jun right beside you, he was no help. He had no recollection of the people who took him. No memory of the people who rushed him inside the plane, even how the plane looked like inside.

It was like his memory faded.

You wondered if he was happy here, if he missed his own life before transferring. Never did you hear him complain, but the way he talked about Korea; it was like he really enjoyed the place.

"Something weird is going on."

You said aloud. Your eyebrows scrunched together, deep in thought as you slowly chewed on a piece of toast.

It was cold in your house. The heater was broken, and all that covered your body was a thin jacket.

"What are you talking about?"

Your mother slid a small plate of eggs towards you. The scrambled eggs sizzled with heat and filled your nose with bliss.

You put down your half eaten toast on the plate before picking up a fork.
