it went so fast. she remembered the dream, the horrid, vivid dream. Aaron, shushing and begging, manipulating her like his words were still rooted deep inside her brain. the noises around her, so loud she could not hear herself think. only his words. how he justified what he had done. that he had done it all for her.
her eyes had darted to the limp body on the ground, covered by a black cloak, the puddle around her larger than the fabric could ever reach. the rage that build up inside her, how he came closer to her, how he would. not. stop. talking.
Rayne woke up in agony, standing besides her bed. the full forces of her powers blinded the room with their light as she released them, the sound of her own voice filling the silence in the night until she realized it was her own. Lilith's hand was on her shoulder, and she smiled with tears i her eyes. why was she crying?

Rayne's vision was blurred, shaking along with the vibration of her body. the trembling started i her fingers, jolting up like venom in her veins, leaving her unstable on her feet. the sound was s loud in her ears, the very absence of noise shrieking in her mind.she could not look down. she could not, out of fear of what she would see. the nightmares of the war had left them out of their room at night more than once, but never like this. never, ever, like this.

Lilith couldn't breathe. she couldn't speak as she dropped to her knees, a gaping hole in her stomach where the magic had struck right through. blood bubbled up in he throat as she clutched the wound, her own hands shaky as she tried to speak. one bloodied hand made it's way to Rayne's face, comforting as her wife realized what she had done. Lilith did her best to smile, to leave her love with peace. she did not deserve more things to regret.
the words gurgled as she spoke them, interrupted by the blood running from her mouth.
''It's... Okay... Ray... i love..y..'' she tried, but she could not avoid this. gravity nor time could save them from this, and they both knew so.
Lilith's hand slipped from Rayne's cheek, falling limp to the ground as he body slumped down.

Rayne could not cry. she could not talk. she could not say it back. she was frozen in pain as Lilith died with a brave face on, hoping her dying wish could become Rayne's happiness.
it never did.
