After my parents came to visit me the next day, I left the hospital and went to visit Jake. I got into his house and saw him sitting on the couch in the living room. He sat there staring at the blank TV. He seemed distressed. His brunette hair was messy and all over the place and his clothes were scruffy. His mother entered the room. "Hey honey how are you?" "I'm not good at all." "What's on your mind?" "Mom, it's my fault that Caroline is in the hospital fighting for her life. I can't sleep anymore! All I think about is her lifeless body on the hospital bed." "Honey, I'm sure Caroline knows you meant well. Stop blaming yourself." She stood up and left.

Jake was laying on the couch staring at the ceiling for hours. I walked up to him and saw that his eyes were red. He was crying. "Jake it's not your fault," I whispered. He still laid there. I stared at him for a few minutes and left. I walked for a few minutes thinking. I'd never seen Jake so hurt before. Usually he's happy and full of life. I couldn't even recognize him. His clothes were scruffy and his hair was messy. Usually his clothes were neat and his hair was always slick back and his eyes. His eyes always had that twinkle. Seeing him like that broke my heart.
