I stroll into the hallways until I reached my locker. This morning was very chill, and very weird. I woke up really early and everything was just very slow... from eating my breakfast, to turning on the car engine. I guess that's just because of all the thoughts piled into my head. Like, what's going on between me and Matt? And what the hell was up with Johnny last night- speaking of which my dad wasn't very happy about that last night, we talked after I got home from dropping off Johnny and I told him everyhting was fine and that he even wasn't that drunk. He wasn't very convinced but didn't say anything else. Thank god.
I fill up my locker up and I feel an arm snake around my waist. "Good morning, Maddie." Matt whispers in my ear, and I could hear his deep, rich morning voice. Suddenly a cage of butterflies are let out and they swarm into my stomach.
I look into Matts lovely eyes and I say, "Hey." He smiles as his arm holds me tighter and were communicating throught our eyes.
They hallways are pretty empty becasue we're here a little earlier than usual. But in the corner of my eye I see someone in dark clothes. I focus my eyes on them and I see Johnny. He frowns at, what I think is me and Matt, and I watch him storm out of the building. Weird.
Matt frowns, turns around to look behind him, and once he doesn't see anyone else in the halls he looks back at me. "What's the matter? Was someone there?" He asks.
I shake my head, "N-no. I thought I-I saw someone." I turn back to my locker and I finish filling up my locker.
When I finish, Matt takes a hold of my hand a tugs me forward, "Let's go."
"Where are we going?" I ask, very curious.
"I wanna show you something." He simply says as we walk down the hallways and out the back exit of the school building. From there we go towards the woods that's right next to the high school and we walk for a while until Matt stops in front of a big tree. I curiously look at him and he starts laughing.
He points up at the sky and says, "Look up." I do as he says and there's one wide, curved branch attached to the big tree. Probaly wide enough to have four people on there. Without realizing it before, I see smaller branches that looks like it ladders up the the bigger branch. As if he can read my minds he says, "Go ahead. Climb it." And that's exactly what we do, since we we're early to school Matt and I just chill and hang out for a while.
Breaking the silence Matt says, "This is were I usually go if I wanna ditch school for a while and... just think." He looks over at me with those eyes that can make me faint and fall off the tree. He searches my face and then says, "It's stupid I know."
I frown and say, "It's not stupid, becasue that's something that I'd do." I look at him and start laughing.
He chuckles too and adds, "I'm in love with your laugh." He watches my reaction and I start blushing like crazy. He starts laughing at me and we just stare at whats around us.
Then, before we know it, the bell rings which signals that we only have, like, two minutes until we're late for our 1st period class. Matt and I widen our eyes and whip our heads to look at each other.
"Shit! Let's go!" I shreik and practically push Matt off the tree. He starts laughing and rushes down the ladder. Once he's finally down he turns around to help me and I grab a hold of his shoulders as his hands grasps onto my waist. I jump off but instead of sprinting as soon as my feet touch the ground, we stay that way for a moment, as if time has frozen and there's nothing to worry about. He clears his throat and says, "Let's go."
He lets go of me and gets a hold of my hand. Together we sprint into the building, which is hard considering that Matt's on the football team. I was able to catch up to him when we were halfway there and when I start falling behind, Matt stops and crouches down.
"Get on my back. We'll get there faster because obviously you're too slow." He smirks.
I playfully hit his back and snap back, "Shut up! I was able to catch up with you, and your hella fast so I'm not that slow." I say as a matter a factly and eventually hop onto his back.
"Oooo, you're so heavy." He groans, and starts struggling as he climbs up the stairs.
I scoff, "No I'm not! I'm only 120 lbs, and anyways you should be strong considering you're on the football team."
He turns his head to look at me, "Yeah, your right."
And without any heads up, he sprints up the stairs and down the hallways. If he wasn't holding onto my legs I would have fallen right off! I hold onto him so tightly that I'm scared I'm gonna choke him, but I guess that's what he gets when he doesn't tell me we're about to blast off. As he's sprinting we almost run into a few freshmen. Horrified, they move out of the way and say things like, "What the-", "Oh my god!", and "Cool!". After that Matt and I couldn't stop laughing as we pass by class rooms, teachers, and other students. Finally we make it to my locker and I hop off and qucikly open my locker.
"Go! You're gonna be late!" I whisper very loudly, trying not to be to distracting.
He scoffs, "My first period teacher loves me." He waves off, "I'll be fine." Once I close my locker with all my english stuff in my arms and I start walking.
"Oh my god, you even walk slow! At this rate you'll definately be late and Mr. Randell will give you suspension if you don't hurry up." He walks up to me and sweeps me off my feet.
"What the-?" I couldn't finish my sentence because he carries me, bridal style, and jogs down the hallway and into Mr. Randell's classroom.
Once we're in the classroom he puts me into my seat and winks at me. He turns to face Mr. Randell who sternly says, "What the hell is going on here?"
Matt shruggs, "I was just making sure that Maddie's slow ass got to class in time." And, as if on cue, the tardy bell rings. "I gotta go. Bye, M." And he sprints out. I playfully roll my eyes at him.
What a dork.

Me and Sam walk to our usual table to eat lunch and we're the last ones to get there. I slide into the lunch tables and everyone greets us except for Johnny. I look at him and he's just isolating himself from the world by playing on his phone.
Gabby looks over at Johnny, who's sitting next to her, and asks him, "Babe, you alright?"
Johnny breaks out of his little bubble and says, "Yeah, yeah."
"You don't look fine, what's wrong." Gabby asks, very concerned. We all watch as Gabby tries to get something out of Johnny.
"I'm fine, alright!" He looks up at all of us and his eyes rest on mine. Feeling very weird, I break our eye contact and, from the corner of my eye, I watch him storm out of the cafeteria.
"What was that all about." Sam asks as I pop a french fry into my mouth.
I shrug, "I don't know. You're his friend, why are you asking me?"
Gabby frowns at me, "Maybe because he was eyeing you as if you did something to him." She gets up and goes out of the cafeteria.
"Wow." Aaron scoffs. "Talk about drama." I roll my eyes at him. I try to push away everything that happened and I continue to eat my lunch.

I stretch my arms, back, and neck before closing my English textbook and packing all my homework into my backpack. I double check my planner to make sure I did everything I needed for tomorrow.
I forgot my notes for my history test tomorrow. I kinda need that to study and prepare.
I mentally slap myself in the face multiple times before getting up, grabbing a hoodie from the closet, and walking out to the car to drvie back to school.
