I was laying back on my office chair with a small cold towel draped over my eyes. I was working non-stop at the safety commission, to the point I was sleeping in my office. Endless meetings about how to take down the league of villains, the secret mission I'm about to go on, and trying to get more information on how the hell I became the number 2 hero. "It's what the people need." That was always the answer Madam President would give me no matter how I asked. I've been so stressed that Toshinori needed to step in for me at school, just so I could catch up on some sleep. Thank god for the book "Even dummies can be teachers!". He thanked me for the recommendation, even though he had no idea I actually bought that book when I first arrived back in Japan.
I missed the students, my friends, and Shouta. At first I was so skeptical about joining UA. I never wanted to mentor anyone ever again, but something about that place opened a part of my heart that I thought was permanently closed.
I promise to protect them. I won't fail them the way I failed you Cici.
"Ready to go?" The lights instantly turned on and I grunted in annoyance as I removed the towel from my face and sat up.
"Ready to go where exactly?" I rubbed my eyes, irritated I only had about 20 minutes of rest.
"To the provisional hero license exam." Mera, who is the closest assistant to Madam President, yawns. "We're short staffed and we need the extra hands. Let's get going."
My eyebrows raised up. It meant I can finally see the students again and see their improvement. "Coming!" I yelled out as I quickly threw my suit jacket on and started to walk out with my phone in my hand. I was typing out a text to Shouta, until I bumped into someone.
"Volten! Where are you going?" Hawks looks down at me with a smile. "I was wondering if you wanted to join me for breakfast-"
"I can't right now sorry!" Gave him a small pat on the side of his arm as I tried to go around him. Unfortunately it didn't work as he blocked my way again.
"I figured. That's why I personally made you this bento box!" He pulls out a nicely wrapped bento box from the inside of his jacket proudly.
"Oh whoa! Um-"
"Volten let's go!" Mera yelled from inside the open elevator.
Without giving it another thought I thanked him and grabbed it from his hands as I ran to catch the elevator. Mera eyes my food from the corner of his eye and I instantly pull it towards my chest. "The hell, I ain't going to share with you!" He rolled his eyes to my comment.
We finally arrived at our destination. The stadium was covered by different school buses and students were scattered as I tried to spot anyone from UA. I decided to leave Mera behind to look for Class 1-A to wish them luck before the test. As I was passing through the crowd, I suddenly heard a laugh that sent an icy shock down my spine.
"Hahaha you're such a jokester!" That laugh... I've heard it before. I turned to face where it came from and to my surprise not only did I finally get to put a face to the laugh I heard over the phone a few months ago, but there she was..with Shouta. I can feel my eye twitch as Ms. Joke continued laughing away as Shouta stood there. Before I was able to take a step towards them, my view was blocked by one of the security guards.
"Volten, you can't just leave your post. Please allow me to escort you inside to start the introduction with Mera." I take one last look at Ms. Joke and Shouta. I know he isn't the kind of guy to flirt with others especially in a setting like this. Just let it go Mims. I nodded at the security guard and followed him inside until I wasn't able to hear her laugh anymore.
