*Sonic's POV*
"Well, you seem better." Tails said as he took a sip of his coffee. He wore his lab coat and his lab goggles on his forehead as he sat at the dining table."I still have the black eye." I mumbled and went to serve myself a cup of coffee then sat across from him.
"Yeah. It's going to take a while to go away. It's purple." He looked down at his phone. "Rouge got Shadow to calm down once he woke up. He's not going to attack Knuckles, and she's going to try to keep Shadow away for a while."
I could tell he was mad at me. I hated it. "Aren't you going to say something?" I asked.
"I've told you countless times. Should I really say it again knowing full well you're not going to listen?" Tails looked up, looking angry. "Sonic, how could you give up so easily on Shadow?"
"He's the one who kept blaming me! If I hadn't got to YOU on time, you would be dead. Thankfully, you just ended up with a scar. I saved you, and then I went for Rouge, I wasn't going to let either of you die. I wasn't picking. Metal was aiming at YOU first. YOU could have died. I went to Rouge after I got you out of the way. Shadow SAW THAT. I tried. I really tried!" I slammed my hands on the desk. "I am tired of being told I am the villain here. He thinks I went to help you first because you're my little brother, and that Rouge wasn't important to me. That's a lie!
"I know! I know Sonic. I know you tried your best, but that doesn't mean you can just give up on Shadow. He needs someone like you. Rouge says even the commander has noticed a change ever since you started fighting with him. He's been more aggressive and more reserved ever since. You were so close to finally becoming his friend, and instead of making him hear your side of the story, you gave up on him the second he blamed you." Tails slammed his hands on the table, too, standing up as he did so and raising his voice at me. "I don't understand why. All you ever wanted was for him to be your friend."
"I have lost lots of people in my life because sometimes I AM too slow. Having someone remind me, blame me that yet another one of my friends could have died is NOT something I will put up with." I crossed my arms, then looked away. "You wouldn't understand, Tails. Please just drop it." I stood up and walked outside, leaving my coffee at the table now being fully awake.
I decided to go for a walk, wanting to clear my mind and try to calm down. I needed to, I was getting more annoyed the more I thought about that accident. Shadow snapped at me, punching me, attacking me because Rouge almost died. It hadn't been my fault. And if he had just listened before he blamed me, maybe we wouldn't be here right now. Maybe I would be his friend by now.
"Uhm, hi!" My ears perked up, and I quickly looked up when I saw someone standing in front of me. A civilian. "You're Sonic." She waved her hand at me. She was a dark blue colored hedgehog, her quills barely reaching her shoulders, styled like Shadow's just shorter, reminding me even more of him.
"Yes. That's me." I said while gifting her a smile. "Did yah need something?" I asked. She looked like maybe Tails age. He was almost 18 already.
"Yes- Erm. I mean, no. Not really. It's just." She kept stuttering and messing with her hands nervously. "Hi." She nervously laughed and waved at me again. "I need to-" She was interrupted when Metal suddenly tried to attack her but I moved her out of the way.
"Metal!" We both shouted in sync. She was smiling and looked excited but the excitement quickly went away when she saw Metal about to attack again.
"You need to get out of here." I said as I got in front of her to protect her.
"I can take care of myself, thank you." She crossed her arms.
Great. Yet another civilian who won't listen when I am trying to help.
"Look, I am sure you can, I am just trying to make sure the two of us get out of this unscathed, so please let me take care of this." I said, still smiling at her, hoping that it would make her listen and leave me alone to take care of him.
"And let you have all the fun? No, thank you." She laughed. One second, she was behind me, and the next, she was beside Metal, kicking him to the ground. She had speed.
Suddenly, I was paying attention to her. She was fast and strong and knew how to fight. She wore a grey t-shirt and black pants with a belt holding what looked like a weapon, but bulkier. What really caught my attention was her fighting style. It reminded me so much of my team. She held her hands together and slammed down with force like she was holding Amy's hammer. She punched like Knuckles. She had gadgets like Tails. She kicked like Rouge. Suddenly, she used a spin dash on Metal like I did.
She jumped back, landing a few feet in front of me when Metal was destroyed. She panted heavily and shook her hands in the air. "Oh my chaos, I freaking did it!" She fist bumped the air and jumped in excitement. "I'm sorry, Metal. I'll make it up to you someday. I promise."
"Who are you?" I asked as soon as I heard her talk to Metal that way. "You're yet another one of his creations, aren't you?" I got ready to fight her.
She was quick to turn around and face me, her smile remaining on her face forcefully. "I am not." She said, trying to remain calm and extended her arms towards me as if telling me to calm down.
"Who are you?" I asked again, keeping my distance.
"Right. Let me introduce myself." She stood up straight and dusted herself off, then fixed her quills. She looked back up at me and waved her hand at me again while tilting slightly to the side. "My name is Maria the Hedgehog. I am your daughter. From the future, that is."
I was suddenly unable to breathe.
