*Shadow's POV *
"Good morning!" I woke up to the smell of pancakes, startling me awake, realizing someone was in my house and causing me to chaos control to the kitchen with a pistol at hand. I immediately put it down when I saw it was Maria and suddenly got hit with the realization that I had, in fact, not dreamt the previous day. "I made your favorite, and I went out to buy these."

She walked up to me with a plate of pancakes and a small bag of coffee beans but not the ones I usually ate. "You say those are your favorite all the time. Have you not tried them yet?"

I was still trying to get used to the fact that she was my daughter. Having someone know my weaknesses, soft spots, and what I like to eat was something I was not comfortable with. I was new to it. I was not ready for.

"I haven't." I confessed as I sat down and watched her as she made an even more of a mess of my kitchen. There was pancake mix all over the counters, egg shells on the floor, and stains of coffee from her brewing some coffee for herself. She wore an apron, but it was ever covered in chocolate, making me realize she put chocolate chips inside the pancakes.

"Come on! Take a bite." She said as she waited for me to eat, stopping her from making more pancakes for herself.

I hesitated but looked down at the food and couldn't help it. I grabbed the syrup and poured some on top, then grabbed my fork and took a bite. I felt as the soft, sweet taste of the pancake melted in my mouth. She was right, and these were now going to be my new favorite thing to eat. I was going to take another bite when we both suddenly heard the front door start to unlock. She turned off the stove and quickly ducked down just in time before Rouge walked in.

I dashed to her and pushed her back out of the house, but she had already seen my kitchen and had seen the table set for two people. "Whoa. Are you with someone?"

"No." I said as I closed the door behind me after we were both outside of the house.

"You never make a mess. Your kitchen looks like a hurricane passed by." Rouge pointed out. "And you had two plates on the table. Oh, my chaos! Are you finally seeing someone? Can I meet her?"

"Sure. I have company. No, you can't meet them." I said whatever would get her out of my house faster.

"Oh, so it's a first date? But she's here for breakfast?" Rouge said, I wanted to throw up at what she was insinuating. "Will I meet her eventually?"

"Sure. Yes. Can you leave me alone already, Bat?" I said as I looked back at the door after I heard things falling in the kitchen.

"Sure. Sure. I'll see you at work?" She asked, but I shook my head.

"I need a week off. Can you take care of that?" I asked, and she smiled, then nodded. "Great. Bye." I walked back inside my house, closing the door as soon as I was in so she couldn't see inside. I walked around the house, closing all the curtains, knowing how sneaky Rouge could be.

"What did she say? Did she see me?" Maria asked, I looked up at her to see her head was powered in flour.

"You're messy." I sighed and walked to her, finally seeing the full damage she caused my kitchen. It's worse than I thought.

"Sorry, you always say I am worse than dad." She laughed. "I'll clean it up though, I promise!" Her smile was as bright as Fakers smile when he was trying to be friends with me.

She may look more like me, even having my eye color, yet Sonics fur color, but she acted a lot like him.

"So, can you explain what happened between you and Sonic?" She asked as she finally sat down at the table to eat with me.

"It's complicated." I said as I took another bite. She proceeded to take my plate away, making me put my fork down and raise a brow at her. She surely was my daughter, this girl was not afraid of me. In fact, her smile insinuated she was used to it.

"I have time. And you won't get these until you talk." She said as she started eating. "So? What's it going to be?"

"You're a brat." I rested back on my seat and crossed my arms. "Fine."

I started explaining to her how it started. The day Eggman attacked with Metal, the day Rouge nearly died because Faker decided to save his brother instead of Rouge. I explained how after that day, Faker hated me as much as I hated him and that I would never forgive him. Rouge had nearly lost her life that day because of him. Because he picked and chose his closest friend over someone who needed his help most.

"Have you listened to what Sonic has to say about it?" Maria said as she returned my plate. "And why didn't you go after Rouge?"

"Eggman was attacking me with everything he had, I had to keep the robots away from the others who were unconscious." I explained. "I have not listened to him. I don't bother with him anymore. It's his fault Rouge nearly died and almost lost her wing. She still can't fly." I explained.

"Is that why Auntie Rouge has that big cut on her back?" She asked herself but caught my attention.

"The Rouge you know has that scar?" I asked, and she nodded.

"Yes, yet the two of you still ended up together." She explained. "For what I heard, you two never fought like you are doing now. My dad never gave up on being your friend. You should listen to what he has to say."
