The sky hung low with thick, gray clouds, casting everything beneath it in a dim, muted light. The faint smell of wet pavement and damp earth filled the air as Hyunjin walked down the street towards Jisung's house. The recent rain had left the air cool, the lingering mist clinging to the ground and softening the edges of everything in sight. Each step felt slow, deliberate, as he moved through the quiet, drizzly afternoon.

His mind wandered as his feet carried him closer. The steady drip of water from tree branches and rooftops seemed to mirror the thoughts he was trying to shake off—the worry gnawing at the back of his mind. But he pushed it down, focusing on the rhythmic sound of his sneakers against the pavement. Jisung's house wasn't far now. He'd been there enough times to know the way without thinking.

The neighborhood was quiet, save for the occasional rustle of wind through the trees and the soft patter of raindrops falling from the leaves. Jisung's house came into view—a cozy, two-story home nestled between others that looked just like it. Hyunjin slowed his steps, staring at the familiar front door. He took a deep breath and climbed the steps to the porch, his hand hovering over the doorbell for a moment before pressing it.

The door swung open almost immediately, Jisung grinning at him. "Took you long enough," He said, stepping aside to let Hyunjin in.

"Yeah, yeah," Hyunjin muttered, kicking off his shoes and following Jisung up the narrow staircase. The faint smell of coffee and freshly baked bread drifted from the kitchen, but it was soon replaced by the scent of something sweeter as they reached Jisung's room—Felix's snacks for sure.

When they entered, Felix was already sprawled out on the floor, a bag of chips open beside him. Seungmin sat nearby, cross-legged and scribbling something on a notebook. He glanced up briefly when Hyunjin entered, their eyes meeting for just a second. Seungmin gave him a small, polite nod—a silent acknowledgment—Hyunjin returned Seungmin's nod awkwardly, before quickly looking away. Get yourself together Hyunjin, he thought, settling down onto the floor across from Seungmin.

Jisung dropped down beside Felix and tossed a small piece of paper toward Hyunjin. "We already split up the research for you," he said. "Shouldn't take too long if we all stick to our parts."

Hyunjin nodded and muttered a quiet, "Thanks," before looking down at his notebook. Beginning to read the contents.

As they worked, Jisung and Felix kept the conversation flowing easily between them—talking, laughing, making snide remarks about how boring the project was. Even Seungmin joined in every now and then, his quiet voice weaving into the mix with suggestions or observations about the assignment. Hyunjin, however, stayed mostly silent, his focus drifting between the project in front of him and the persistent hum of rain tapping against the window.
