The shrill sound of the alarm cut through the early morning silence, jolting Hyunjin awake. He slapped the clock off, groaning as he pulled the covers back over his head. Every muscle in his body felt heavy, weighed down by the remnants of another sleepless night. The fatigue was familiar, almost like a second skin. He could feel it even in his bones, a deep, unshakable weariness that sleep could never seem to cure.

The sun was just beginning to rise, casting a soft, orange glow over the city. Hyunjin dragged himself out of bed, the cold floor a sharp contrast to the warmth of his sheets. His reflection in the mirror greeted him with dark circles and tired eyes—proof of the relentless nights that had long become his new normal. He washed his face with cold water, hoping to shake off some of the exhaustion, but it clung to him, stubborn and unyielding.

In the kitchen, the smell of freshly brewed coffee drifted through the air, mingling with the scent of toast. His mother was already up, moving quietly around the kitchen. Hyunjin grabbed a piece of toast, more out of habit than hunger, before heading out the door with a quick goodbye.

The streets were just beginning to come alive as Hyunjin walked to school. The air was crisp, the kind that nipped at your nose and made your breath visible. It was refreshing, in a way, helping to clear the fog in his mind, if only slightly. The city was waking up around him—shops opening, cars starting, people beginning their day. It was a comforting routine, one that grounded him amidst the chaos of his life.

As he turned down a quiet street, a flash of movement caught his eye. A young boy, chasing after a runaway soccer ball, oblivious to the car speeding down the road. Hyunjin's heart skipped a beat as he saw the danger. Without breaking his stride, he extended his hand ever so slightly, sending a gentle wave of energy toward the ball. It rolled back to the boy's feet just as the car sped past, leaving the child none the wiser. The boy's mother hurried over, scolding him lightly as she took his hand. Hyunjin watched them for a moment before continuing on his way, the incident already fading into the background.

The closer he got to school, the busier the streets became. A construction crew was working on a building near the campus, their loud banter filling the air. Hyunjin was about to pass by when he noticed a worker struggling with a heavy beam, his grip slipping. Without thinking, Hyunjin subtly nudged the beam back into place with a flick of his fingers, steadying it just in time. The worker blinked in surprise, not understanding how he managed to avoid the accident, but Hyunjin was already moving on, disappearing into the sea of students making their way to class.

Hyunjin reached the school gates with a sigh, the weight of the day already pressing down on him. The building loomed ahead, its brick walls and tall windows familiar but unwelcoming. He navigated the crowded hallways on autopilot, the noise of chattering students and slamming lockers washing over him.
