Brittany POV
It was Friday and Ayesha was over my house for the weekend. Since it's the last weekend of summer for us, we decided we should have one last celebration before the new school year. It was midnight and we were playing truth or dare.
Ayesha: Ok, ok. My turn.
She pulled out a card from the truth stack and read the question out loud.
Ayesha: Is there anyone that's been on your mind constantly?
I gasped.
Me: Stephen.
She frowned.
Ayesha: You like Stephen?
I frowned.
Me: Nooo, you do. That's who's been on your mind.
She laughed.
Ayesha: Ahhh, no. My grandmother has been on my mind lately.
Me: She lives here?
She sighed.
Ayesha: No she died a couple months ago. That's why we moved here.
I frowned.
Me: You guys have other family here?
Ayesha: No, she left us her house down here. So that's why we moved down here.
Me: Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring it back up. I know what losing someone feels like.
Ayesha: Who have you lost?
I sighed.
Me: Well I haven't lost him, yet. My dad, he's in the army. He, I don't know. It's complicated.
Ayesha: No I get it. My auntie is in the Air Force. She gets deployed all the time. So whenever I see her I feel like everything is ok, but when she's away it worries me too.
I smirked.
Me: Yeah, I just really miss when he was here for Christmas. That was when everything felt complete, at least I thought. Until he left again, but anyway.
She smiled.
Ayesha: It's ok, I understand.
Me: So what's going on with you and Stephen?
She rolled her eyes and laughed.
Ayesha: Why do you think we have so much chemistry?
Me: Well, you guys are the same age. You guys are cute together, and you guys are going to the same school. Chemistry!
I said in a sing song tone.
Ayesha: It's nothing. I don't even know him all like that, he's just a kid at my church.
Me: At first that's what it'll be like then you'll start dating, get married, then have children.
I smiled.
Ayesha: Woahh, wait a minute. I'm not getting married or having children anytime soon.
Me: But you didn't say you won't date him.
She laughed.
Ayesha: Next question.
We laughed.
•••Two days later•••
Ayesha POV
I walked into church a little late today because Brittany's mom had to stop at the bank to get offering and some plastic cups from the store. Today we were having a cook out for the "School's Start" programs they do. I guess they hand out free supplies and book bags out to the kids and a free dinner. Brittany days it's fun so it should be. I saw people talking and handing out prayer pamphlets. Me and Brittany walked into the sanctuary and sat down in the second row. My mom was greeting people and my dad was checking the microphones. I saw Stephen and his family on the other side. They were reading the bible and talking. He looked at me and smiled. I smiled back. He mouthed the word "Hey" to me. I chuckled and waved back.
Brittany: Mmm, look who's talking.
Me: What you talking about?
Brittany: I saw you waving at him.
I laughed.
Ayesha: Whatever Brittany.
The pastor came and told us to stand for praise and worship.
••• 1 Hour later•••
Stephen POV
"Why don't you go talk to her"?
My mom said. I laughed.
Me: Ok, I'll go.
I walked over towards Ayesha. She was pouring her some pink lemonade. I grabbed a cup and smiled at her.
Me: Pink lemonade, so refreshing.
I said dramatically. She giggled.
Ayesha: Yeah, definitely.
She stopped pouring her cup and drank her lemonade. She was stunning. I poured me some lemonade and drank some also.
Ayesha: So where are you from?
Me: I'm from here, I just changed my church. You don't know me?
I frowned.
Ayesha: Why would I know you?
I chuckled.
Me: Well you know, I'm Dell Curry's son.
I smiled.
Ayesha: Who's that?
I frowned and gasped.
Me: You don't watch basketball huh?
Ayesha: No, not really. But I know the main faces though.
Me: Like who?
She giggled.
Ayesha: Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, Melo. You know the legends.
I laughed.
Me: Ok, I'm going to have to teach you some of the basics.
She frowned.
Ayesha: Why would you do that?
Me: Well if your gonna come to my games, your gonna have to know what's going on.
She chuckled.
Ayesha: Woah there, who said I was going to come to your games?
Me: Well I was hoping we keep talking like this so eventually, you could be my number one fan.
I said smirking. She laughed.
Ayesha: That was smooth playboy, but I'm not like these other girls your used to.
Me: I already know that, I can tell by the way you smile.
She giggled.
Ayesha: Mmm, maybe one day I'll come check you out.
Me: Maybe one day, or today. I can get your number?
She laughed.
Ayesha: Your real smooth, but maybe.
She smirked and walked away towards her friend. I was left there kind of surprised. If it was any other girl they would have been thirsty for my number but she was definitely different. I walked over to Seth and he was laughing at me.
Seth: I didn't see any numbers being written down, so I guess you didn't get the digits?
I Nudged him and he laughed.
Me: Whatever man.
Seth: So what y'all talk about?
Me: She didn't know who I was.
Seth: Ok, and?
Me: No like, she didn't even know who dad was.
Seth: She must not be a sports fan.
Me: No, but I'm definitely a fan of her.
Seth: Dang she got you sprung already?
Me: Shutup seth.
He laughed.
Seth: Nah but, what about Zia?
I sighed.
Zia was my on and off again girlfriend of two years. As of right now we were off but we have been talking lately so I don't know what we could be by next week. Especially with school starting back up, I don't know what could happened. I loved Zia but it seems like we are growing apart. I didn't care though. I'm single, but most importantly I was focused on basketball this year. If I wanted to make it to the NBA this was the time to start taking that step, to be a better player.
Me: We're not together right now.
He rolled his eyes.
Seth: Y'all will be together next week, don't worry.
He walked off laughing.
