I hear a honk from outside, and that's my cue to leave. I make my way downstairs, open my front door, and lock it.

Matteo's Bugatti is waiting for me. I open the passenger door and get in.

I buckle up as he pulls out of my driveway.

The drive is silent, and I maintain that silence, preferring not to speak until Matteo says, "My aunt isn't aware that this arrangement is in place, so we need to make it convincing."

As if I'd have any trouble with pretending this is what I do best.

"Got it," I murmur.

Soon, we arrive at an old-fashioned house that still retains its charm.

I unfasten my seatbelt and exit the car. Matteo takes my hand, intertwining our fingers. I roll my eyes, and he gives a dismissive scoff.

He knocks on the door, and an older woman answers. "Oh, Matteo, look at how grown up you've become," she says, squeezing his cheeks.

His jaw tightens, and I struggle to suppress a laugh. She then turns to me and says, "You must be Valentina."

I nod and smile. "Yes, I'm Valentina. It's nice to meet you."

Matteo introduces me. "Valentina, this is my grandmother, Sophia."

"Nice to meet you!" I say politely.

Matteo then guides me through the house and stops in the middle of it before letting go of my hand to greet his father.

I stood at the edge of the room, my eyes scanning the gathering.

I spotted Matteo's mother, Lucia, talking animatedly with an older relative near the fireplace. Aunt Maria, I think Matteo had called her.

I approached with a warm smile, trying to keep my nerves in check. "This is such a lovely gathering."

Lucia smiled back. "Thank you, dear. I'm glad you could make it."

I glanced at the older woman beside Lucia. "I don't believe we've met."

Lucia introduced her. "This is Aunt Maria, my husband's aunt. She's been with the family for ages."

"You must be Valentina Matteo's girlfriend right." She says.

"Yes, it's a pleasure to meet you."

Aunt Maria smiled, I thanked them and moved away.

Matteo's family seems nice enough I mean better than mine.
