As I stand in Logan's kitchen, the tension from the earlier argument still thick in the air, Logan pulls me aside. His face is serious, and his voice is low. "Valentina, you should go before things get even more out of hand."
I look at him, my frustration giving way to worry. "What do you mean?"
Logan's eyes meet mine with a hard edge. "If you stay, it's only going to make things worse. Trust me, it's better if you leave now."
I nod, my resolve softening. "Okay, I'll go. Thanks for everything, Logan."
Logan gives me a nod of understanding. I turn to say goodbye, my emotions still raw but tempered by his words. "Bye, Logan. Thanks."
As Matteo drives us away from Logan's house, the atmosphere is tense. Julian, sitting in the back, glances at me through the rearview mirror.
"So, what happened back there?" Julian asks, trying to sound casual but clearly curious.
Sabrina, beside him, shifts uncomfortably. "Matteo and Valentina had a massive argument. He was really pushing her, and she pushed back. It got pretty intense."
Julian chuckles. "Sounds like I missed out on some fun."
I can't hold my frustration any longer. I turn sharply to Sabrina. "Why did you tell Matteo where I was?"
Sabrina looks defensive. "I thought it would be better if he knew. I didn't want him to worry."
Worry my ass.
"Better?" I snap. "It's none of his business where I am. You had no right to tell him."
Sabrina's face flushes with frustration. "I was just trying to help. I didn't think it would blow up like this."
Julian tries to mediate. "Okay, let's just calm down. We're all trying to get through this."
I spin around to Julian, my anger boiling over. "Oh, so now you're the peacemaker? Don't pretend you know everything just because you're in the backseat!"
Julian's eyes narrow. "Valentina, that's not fair. We're just trying to help you."
I glare at him. "Help? More like sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. Fuck off, Julian."
Julian looks taken aback, but before he can respond, Matteo's voice cuts through the tension. "Valentina, that's enough. No need to be such an asshole."
I whip my head toward Matteo, fury flashing in my eyes. "Oh, you want to talk about being an asshole? Look who's talking!"
Matteo's face reddens, and he grips the steering wheel tightly. "You know what? Maybe you should just shut the hell up if you can't talk without being a bitch."
Everyone goes silent after that and honestly I'm tired of this, so I go quiet too.
When we get home, I storm into my room, still simmering from the argument. I head straight for the bathroom, slamming the door behind me.
My reflection in the mirror looks as tired and defeated as I feel. I start blending my makeup, trying to focus on anything other than the mess of emotions swirling inside me.
A few minutes later, Matteo walks in, his hair in disarray as he fixes it in the mirror. He meets my gaze through the reflection.
"What are you doing in here?" I snap, trying to ignore him.
"Fixing my hair," Matteo replies, his tone tight. "I need to get ready too."
"Well, it's my bathroom, but fine," I mutter, focusing on my makeup.
Matteo's eyes flick to me, taking in my disheveled look. "You need to change. We're leaving soon."
I glare at him through the mirror. "Why? It's not like you care if I'm ready or not."
"Because we agreed to go to this party, and we need to leave soon," Matteo says, his voice carrying a hint of urgency. "Julian and Sabrina already left. They decided it was better to give us space."
The mention of Julian and Sabrina makes me pause. I hadn't realized they'd left. "So it's just us now?"
"Yeah," Matteo says, his tone softening slightly. "And we need to get going. I'm not asking you to be thrilled about it, just to be ready."
I take a deep breath, feeling the exhaustion from the evening weigh heavily on me.
The fight seems pointless now. "Alright, I'll change. Just give me a minute."
I change into a tight pink dress, trying to look presentable despite the whirlwind of emotions I'm feeling. The dress hugs my curves, and I slip on a pair of heels, hoping it will make me feel more confident, even if just a little.
When I step out of the bathroom, Matteo's eyes linger on me for a moment. He gives a curt nod. "Alright, that works. Let's get going."
I look at him, feeling a mix of irritation and resignation. "Yeah, let's just get this over with."
As we head downstairs, I can't help but notice Matteo in his sharp suit. The dark fabric fits him perfectly, accentuating his broad shoulders and lean physique. I roll my eyes internally; of course, he looks good.
