"Good morning," he complained. His voice was deep. Probably because he just woke up.
"Good morning, sucker. Ready to get your skin back?"
"No."
"Too bad for you I already prepared everything." I said as I took out the needles and strings and a pair of scissors.
"My skin is just fine you dumbfuck, you're the one making a big deal out of it." He grunted.
I rolled my eyes to his comment. He's just tired. Besides, it's better to make sure nothing will get worse, to prevent his skin from falling off we gotta sew it back on time...
I took a pillow to sit on that was just big enough to lift me up to make sure I have a good vision for my work.
"Where do I start?" I asked myself out loud. He groaned, annoyed.
"Take your shirt off."
He complained, a bit annoyed, yet he did take his shirt off without any further fighting. The skin had a weird texture. I gently touched it to feel it: where the skin was peeling off, parting from the healthier skin, it felt dry. Dry and hard to touch, almost like plastic. If I went a bit more down, it felt plump, like rotten skin of a long dead fruit. It felt so weird to touch. Compared to his healthier skin, it was cold. It also smelled weird, it stunk. I didn't even realize until now, how the smell of burned, ashy skin irritated my nose. Almost like rotten egg, it was so irritating that it fogged my mind. On the healthy part of his skin there was a few places with a lot of red around it. It looked painful and itchy. That was either an infection or his skin was also getting affected by his quirk.
I coughed as I checked his skin for any maggots or infections to get rid off. Luckily there wasn't any, or at least I thought so. I first cleaned everything where the skin needed to be sewn before I took the needle and put the string in it. My breath felt heavy and my mind was dizzy. For some reason this was scary and digusting. I leaned closer to see better were the thin needle was piercing into. I held the damaged skin as the needle went trough it. It was hard to pierce trough. This is going to take an eternity... Maybe it's good I didn't start yesterday in the evening.
Finally I managed to get the needles head pierce trough and peek out the other side. To my surprise, Dabi didn't react, at all. Not even a flinch or a wince.
"Did you start yet?" He asked.
Confused, I looked up at him. He was raising an eyebrow, trying to figure out what exactly was happening.
"You like looking at me for so long or what?" He asked grinning.
Annoyed, I flicked my fingers against his cheek.
"No, I already started though. Do you perhaps not feel anything where it's burned?"
"Mhm, yeah I guess."
Then it's probably that...
"Can I-"
"No, fuck off and stay still." I hissed as he tried to get up.
I took a deep breath. Guess he'll only feel pain occasionally...
I placed a hand above the part that I was going to pierce the needle in. There I had to be more careful, since those were still attached to his body and flesh, so I had to make sure I don't stab him with the needle. As soon as I put a bit of pressure he flinched, his muscles tensed. I put a bit more pressure until I did it. The first stitch. Dabi cried out in pain, pressing his hands on his eyes. I smiled cheekely.
"Oh what a tough, strong boy you are. Crying at the first stitch already are we?" I said sarcastically, with a hint of amusement.
"Shut the fuck up you bastard." He whined.
