Nora clapped her hands together, breaking the tension. "Alright, enough of that. Let's make some dinner. I think we both need a little fun."
I smiled, grateful for the distraction. "Sounds like a plan. What should we make?"
"How about pasta? We can throw in some veggies, make it colorful, and then dance around like maniacs while it cooks." Nora grinned, already heading back toward the kitchen.
I laughed, following her. "You had me at 'dance around like maniacs.'"
We rummaged through the pantry and fridge, pulling out ingredients: pasta, cherry tomatoes, zucchini, garlic, and fresh basil. As I chopped the vegetables, Nora queued up some music, the lively beat filling the kitchen. Before long, we were both swaying to the rhythm, tossing veggies into the pan with a little extra flair.
"You know what this needs?" Nora spun around, grabbing a spatula and using it as a makeshift microphone. She belted out a few lyrics, her voice dramatically off-key. I couldn't help but laugh as I joined in, pretending the knife I was using was a microphone.
As we were mid-dance, Nora suddenly turned down the music, a mischievous glint in her eyes. "Wait! I just had the best idea," she said, waving the spatula. "Let's make a story for Instagram! We'll use one of their songs and dance around while cooking. It'll be hilarious!"
I laughed, nodding in agreement. "Yes! Let's do it. I'm down for anything right now."
Nora grabbed her phone, quickly propping it up on the counter to record. "Okay, let's start with a clip of us chopping veggies, then we'll transition to dancing around with our 'mics.' And we'll find a fun song that matches our vibe."
She scrolled through the TikTok music options, since it's easier making the video there, and then we just upload it on instagram.
As soon as "Girls" by Marcus and Martinus started playing, we both lit up, recognizing the familiar tune. "Oh, this is thesong!" Nora exclaimed, her excitement doubling. She hit record, and the camera was on.
We immediately got into character, chopping vegetables with exaggerated flair in sync with the beat. Nora held her spatula like a mic, mouthing the lyrics as I pretended to be her backup singer with the knife still in my hand.
We both belted out the lyrics to "Girls" with over-the-top enthusiasm, completely losing ourselves in the moment. Nora twirled the spatula like she was on stage, while I did my best to keep up, swinging the knife-turned-microphone dramatically.
"I've been looking at girls, girls, girls, girls
Girls, girls, girls, girls!"We sang along, throwing in some ridiculous dance moves as we went. The kitchen had become our own concert venue, and it felt like we were on fire. As we hit the chorus, we started pointing at each other, hyping each other up like we were on tour with Marcus and Martinus.
Nora broke into laughter between verses, wiping tears from her eyes. "We are so good at this! Future pop stars, for sure."
"Obviously," I said, doing a little spin as I continued lip-syncing. "They don't stand a chance against us!"
We kept singing:
"I've been looking at girls, girls, girls, girls
I've been looking at girls
What would life be without them?"As the song came to an end, we struck dramatic poses, both of us out of breath but still laughing. Nora hit stop on the recording, her face flushed from the fun.
"This is going to break the internet," she joked, watching the video back. "We should do this every time we cook."
I grinned, still riding the high of the moment. "Agreed. Best kitchen concert ever!"
