Soo-min sat in class, trying to focus on her notes, but her mind kept drifting to Taehyung, sitting front diagonally to her.
She'd seen him earlier that day too, joking around with Hana and his guy friends.
They were so natural together, and it was all she could think about.

"Soo-min, can you answer this question?" the teacher asked, breaking her from her thoughts.
"Huh? Oh...........s-sorry miss," Soo-min replied, blushing as she tried to get her bearings. She forced herself to concentrate on the lesson but felt her heart sinking.
"Tch. I should just let this go." she thought frustratingly, staring at her notes.
Soo-min's textbook lay open in front of her, but her mind was far from the words on the page. She twirled her pen absently, imagining the countless moments she wished were hers to share with Taehyung.
She sighed, feeling the tug-of-war between her head and her heart.
She tried to remind herself that they were happy, and she should be happy for them, but it was easier said than done.

During lunch, Hana came over with Taehyung. "Hey, Minnie! Join us for lunch?"
Soo-min managed a weak smile. "Maybe another time," she said, her voice trembling.
"Come on, Minnie ! It'll be fun"
Taehyung nodded enthusiastically. "Yeah, and we were just talking about that new movie. You've got to join us so we can hear your thoughts!"
His voice. His eyes.
Soo-min shifted uncomfortably, trying to avoid their eager gazes. "I really don't want to interrupt you guys," she said, looking down at her lap.
Hana pouted, making her eyes wide and innocent. "Oh..........tch...........You wont! We've been missing you, and lunch just isn't the same without you here. Besides, I've got extra cookies today."
Soo-min hesitated, "Cookies, huh?" she said, trying to keep her tone light.
"Yes, cookies!" Hana said, nodding vigorously. "And Taehyung has promised to tell the funniest story ever. You can't miss it!"
"It's true. I've been working on my best story just for you," Taehyung gave a mock-serious nod, with a wink, which made Hana giggle.
Did he just...................to me???
"I appreciate it, really. But I think I need some time alone right now."
Hana's face fell slightly, and she looked at Soo-min with a mix of concern and understanding. "Are you sure? We'd really love to have you with us."
Soo-min forced a small smile, feeling a pang of guilt. "I'm sure. Maybe another time. Thanks for thinking of me, though."
Hana sighed but nodded, squeezing Soo-min's shoulder gently. "Alright. We'll save you a cookie and a spot at the table for next time."
Taehyung gave Soo-min an encouraging smile. "We'll catch up soon, ok? Take care."
She put her head on the table.
The last thing she wanted was to sit with them and pretend everything was fine.

"Its so hard to just be normal around them." she thought with heavy heart.
She wanted to be okay, to not feel this constant ache, but it seemed impossible, with all this small interaction.
She ate alone. Lost. Lonely.

"Why does my heart always seem to betray me when I'm near him?"
