EMBARRESSMANT was probably the first that come to Betty's mind when she thought of the previous events with Wren .And to her own surprise it seemed like this was the first ever heart break she ever felt, so when she received the invite to another Friday night she was gonna skip ,the words no skipping is excused made her chuckle.

"Mrs. Elizabeth, your family is already waiting," the maid announced, her voice echoing in the grand entrance hall.

Betty, dressed in a vintage pink-and-black short dress that she had found tucked away in the back of her closet, turned to the young woman with a warm smile. "Thank you, Suzanne."

As she walked into the opulent living room, her eyes immediately fell upon her sister Rory, who was sitting on the velvet sofa, her hand intertwined with a man's. Betty's smile froze as she recognized the tanned, well-tailored fingers of Logan Huntzberger. The room was a whirl of chandelier light, the hum of distant conversations, and the faint scent of roasting meat wafting from the dining room, but all she could focus on was the sight of them together. Rory looked up and caught her gaze, her own smile faltering for a moment before she squeezed Logan's hand and gave a small wave.

"Elizabeth, darling," Emily's voice cut through the buzz, her eyes lighting up as she saw Betty. "You look absolutely fabulous."

Logan looked up, his eyes flickering with light. For a moment, Betty wasn't sure if it was the chandelier reflecting off his eyes or the smug satisfaction at having snagged Rory. He had always had a way of making her feel out of place, like a pebble in a diamond necklace. His gaze lingered on her, and she felt the familiar burn of his scrutiny. Then, as if bored, he turned back to Rory, whispering something in her ear that made her laugh. The sound was like nails on a chalkboard to Betty.

Richard, a man with a heart as warm as the whiskey he often enjoyed, stepped forward from the crowd. "It's good to see you, sweetheart," he said, his voice gruff but kind. He opened his arms, and Betty stepped into them, feeling the comfort of his embrace.
