The scene opens with the lights slowly coming on, revealing Noah and Micheal in their rooms. Noah's room is on one side of the stage, and Michael's room is on the other, separated by a curtain. (The curtain serves as a "door" leading to "his hallway," while off stage right is the "main door" leading to "another room.") Michael is peacefully asleep on his bed, while Noah sits at his desk, engrossed in writing a letter to Michael. We are about to hear the heartfelt words Noah is penning to his sleeping friend.
NOAH: Hey, I have some good news. I finally get to see and talk to you in person again. I've missed you so much, and I can't wait until I get to see you again. I'll be leaving in a few hours, so your next letter from me will be from the boat. I decided to go by boat because I feel unsafe going by plane. It's sad why I am leaving.
Noah's mind replays the events of that day, recalling the planes he had once dreamt of boarding to explore wondrous destinations. The towers, once symbols of utmost safety, were now engulfed in searing flames. The intensity of the fire was reminiscent of the one from "that night," vividly portrayed on the news. As he reminisces, he can almost sense the heat of the flames, and he instinctively touches the remnants of burn marks on his throat, his voice now hoarse and strained. Frantically glancing around, he eventually returns his focus to the letter, allowing himself to regain composure before continuing with a cleared throat.
but I'm glad to see you again.
From NoahAs Michael's side of the story is happening Noah's side goes dark (Noah is getting on to the boat). *Knock knock* There was a knock on Michael's door that woke him up.
MICHAEL: Coming! (Happy)
He opens the door
MICHAEL'S MOM: you got a letter (content)
She hands him the letter, stands there, and waits for him to read it
MICHAEL: thank you (happy)
He opens the letter, reads it, and smiles
MICHAEL: It says Noah is coming here. I don't know if he's fully moving here or not, but I get to see him. (Excited )
MICHAELS MOM: oh really? (Annoyed)
She closes the door slightly upset. Leaving Michael to write a letter back
