cute little Starkid chaos oneshot that I wrote back in February when I caught covid and have waited all year for it to be spooky season 🎃

"This is so stupid," Joe stated factually.

"Are we actually doing this?" Jaime asked.

"You guys promised me that we could do this!" Meredith shot back. "I want to do something witchy."

"I mean, this is Hatchetfield, there's tons of witchy things going on in this town." Darren argued. "But this?"

"For once, I actually agree with Darren," Lauren laughed. "This idea is insane."

"Twenty bucks says we don't even make it inside." Dylan stated. "Mere's too much of a goody-two-shoes to actually break in somewhere."

"What's your plan, to throw a rock at a window?" Brian Rosenthal asked.

"Oh please, what do you take me for?" Meredith said, rolling their eyes. "I have a plan."

"You all heard her, she has a plan!" Brian Holden yelled, jumping to his partner's defense.

"And that plan is... what exactly?" Joey asked.

"You'll see, trust me." Meredith stated confidently.

The gang continued to follow Meredith down Hickory street, the warm Hatchetfield air sending a sense of relaxation through the group of teenagers. "To think we could be back at the party right now watching Jon and Jeff do bits," Joey mumbled under his breath to Lauren as the group came to a halt.

"We're here you guys!" Meredith exclaimed excitedly. "The Old Waylon place!"

"Okay... so how do we get in?" Rosenthal asked.

"Show us your plan," Dylan teased.
Meredith turned around to face the group, reaching into their bag and pulling out a set of keys. "Behold!"

"What?" Joey yelled.

"But, how?" Jaime asked.

"I bribed Grace Chastity." Meredith informed, trying to not look too pleased. "Her dad's the realtor." The group all exchanged nervous looks as Meredith marched towards the house confidently, Holden trailing behind them. "You lot coming?" She called back. "How's this, compared to a lame Halloween party?"

"Okay but I need more details on this," Joey stated, charging ahead of the group. "Bribed Grace Chastity how?"

"Yeah, did you have to declare Jesus as your savior?" Lauren asked.

"Nah, although I'm surprised she didn't go that far," Meredith answered. "I just have to help her hand out pamphlets advising against going to Homecoming or some shit. I'm sure it'll be humiliating, but this was worth it!"

They had all reached the front porch, a nice layer of dust and cobwebs settled over the front door. "Looks like her dad's doing a great job at selling it," Rosenthal commented.

"If I had the money I'd buy this house so fast," Meredith objected. "I mean, a genuine haunted house?"

"Yeah, can we circle back to that for a second?" Joe asked anxiously.

"Aw what's the matter Walker, scared of ghosts?" Darren teased.

"No," Joe shot back unconvincingly. "No it's just, I mean, if this place is haunted... I mean, do we want to disturb the residents here? Who knows what kind of doors we're going to open if we do?"

"I'd love to see the doors that open," Meredith said happily, placing the key into the lock. The lock clicked and the group all looked around at each other, a mix of giggles and groans spreading as Meredith pushed the door open
