After 2 weeks,
The last two weeks had flown by in a blur. I had barely had time to process everything before it was time to return to Mystic Falls. Telling my mom that Finn was going to siphon the anti-magic spell had made her so happy. She was excited to finally be near me again, and I couldn’t wait to have her close.
As we all gathered to leave for Mystic Falls, I noticed how much had changed. Damon and Elena seemed to have worked out their differences, which was a relief. We had all been through so much, and it was nice to see some peace, even if just for a moment.
Scene change,
We arrived at the entrance to Mystic Falls, where my mom and Matt were waiting. Seeing them standing there made my heart swell. I missed home. Finn showed up soon after, greeting us with her calm, composed demeanor. We asked her about Kol, and she simply said, “He’s busy at the moment.” Then she turned to the task at hand. “I’ll begin siphoning the spell.”
We all stood there silently as Finn touched the barrier, chanting softly. It was surreal, watching the magic unfold in front of us. After about fifteen minutes, she stopped and turned to us. “It’s done. You’re free to enter Mystic Falls.”
A wave of relief washed over me as we all cautiously took a step forward. Nothing happened. No burning, no pain—it was really over. Without hesitation, I ran to my mom and hugged her tightly. It had been too long since we were able to be together like this. I thanked Finn, and she simply smiled, reminding us that she keeps her promises.
As we left the entrance, heading toward the Salvatore Boarding House, it felt like a weight had been lifted off our shoulders. We spent a few hours catching up with Matt and my mom, filling them in on everything that had happened with the Gemini Coven, Olivia, Luke, and the horrific events of the merge. But after a while, everyone started to wind down, and I realized I was starving. No one else seemed to feel the same, so I decided to head to the Grill alone while my mom and Matt left for work.
Scene change,
At the Grill,
I tried to relax and enjoy my meal. But then I spotted Finn, sitting a few tables away, talking on the phone with Kol. I wasn’t trying to eavesdrop, but when I heard her mention the Gemini twins, my ears perked up.
Finn said something that shook me to my core. “Some random girl is pregnant with Gemini twins, and I have to find out who she is.”
My blood ran cold. Pregnant? With Gemini twins?
I had to know more. I walked up to Finn, trying to act casual. “Hey,” I greeted her, “I couldn’t help but overhear your conversation with Kol.”
Finn’s expression was unreadable as she replied, “You shouldn’t listen to other people’s conversations, Caroline.”
I apologized quickly, but I couldn’t let it go. “Why do you believe someone is pregnant with Gemini twins?”
She sighed, explaining the horrific truth. “The spell the Gemini Coven members chanted before they died—it was designed to ensure the survival of their leader’s bloodline. They cast a spell to impregnate a random girl with the coven leader’s twins.”
“That’s… wrong on so many levels,” I muttered, feeling sick.
Finn nodded in agreement. “It was their way of protecting the coven’s future. But I have a way to find the girl. I can use Kai’s blood to perform a spell that will lead me to the twins.”
I couldn’t stay silent. “I want to help,” I blurted out, surprising even myself.
Finn raised an eyebrow. “Why?”
“Because Olivia and Luke were my friends. Their nieces or nephews—they’re my family too.”
Finn considered my words, then nodded. “Okay. Let’s go.”
Scene change,
At Kol and Finn’s house,
I texted Stefan and my mom, letting them know I was with Finn. They both told me to be careful. I watched as Finn began the spell, using Kai’s blood as a locator. But then something unexpected happened—the blood led straight to where I was standing. It started dripping onto the floor near me.
I frowned. “Finn, I think the spell isn’t working.”
But Finn’s next words shattered my world. “It’s working, Caroline. The twins—they’re inside you.”
I stared at her, my mind racing. “What? That’s impossible. I’m a vampire. Vampires can’t get pregnant.”
But Finn’s face remained calm. “It’s possible with magic.”
I couldn’t handle it. I bolted from the house, her words echoing in my mind.
Scene change,
At my house,
I tried to shake off Finn’s revelation. It couldn’t be true. But then I remembered how hungry I’d been lately—hungrier than usual. And this morning, I had thrown up blood. I tried to convince myself it was just an old blood bag.
Next day,
Finn showed up at my door again. I wasn’t in the mood for another confrontation. “What do you want, Finn? To tell me again that I’m pregnant?”
She asked if she could come in, and despite my frustration, I let her. We sat down, and she calmly explained her story—how she, too, had been pregnant as a vampire. She had carried the child for centuries, protected by magic.
It was hard to wrap my head around, but she was so sure. Finally, I agreed to go to a hospital with her to get checked.
Scene change,
At Richmond hospital,
I felt like I was living in a dream. I didn’t tell Stefan or my mom what was really going on. I just said I had some “work” in Richmond. They both told me to be careful.
When it was finally my turn, the doctor couldn’t find anything on the scan at first. I felt a brief flicker of relief, thinking maybe Finn was wrong. But then Finn stepped in, asking to touch my stomach. I let her, and after she siphoned the cloaking spell, there they were—two tiny figures on the screen.
I was pregnant. With twins.
I didn’t know what to feel. Fear? Shock? Joy? It was too much to process.
After leaving the hospital, Finn and I drove back to Mystic Falls in silence. My mind raced. How was I going to tell Stefan? My mom? Would Stefan leave me because these weren’t his children? And Elena—God, Elena would probably make everything about her somehow.
But then, I thought of my twins. My twins. I was a mom now. The thought terrified and excited me all at once.
Breaking the silence, I finally spoke. “I’m going to tell Stefan and my mom, but I don’t want the others to know—especially Elena. I don’t want her negativity around my kids.”
Finn nodded in understanding.
Scene change,
At the Salvatore Boarding House,
I knocked on the door, feeling more nervous than I had in my entire life. Stefan opened the door, looking surprised. “I thought you were in Richmond?”
“I was, but I’m back now. I need to talk to you. It’s important. Can you come with me to my house? My mom is already there.”
Stefan looked at me curiously but agreed. Now came the hardest part—telling him the truth.
