The past few days have felt like a whirlwind, but now I’m standing in my living room, heart pounding, watching my mom and Stefan as they wait for me to speak. Their expressions show confusion and worry, and I know this is about to change everything for all of us.

I take a deep breath. "Mom, Stefan, please listen to the whole story without interrupting, okay?" They exchange a glance but nod, bracing themselves for what’s coming.

I start recounting everything—the conversation I overheard at the Grill with Finn and Kol, the horrifying realization that the Gemini coven’s last act was to ensure a new generation of twins, and the moment Finn performed the spell that revealed I was pregnant. My voice trembles a little as I admit how I didn’t believe it at first, how I kept telling myself it was impossible. But then I talk about Richmond, the hospital, and the ultrasound—how the twins were cloaked by magic, but Finn siphoned the spell to reveal them. And now...I’m going to be a mother.

There’s a long pause after I finish, the room feeling unnaturally quiet.

Then, suddenly, my mom is on her feet, her eyes glistening. “Oh, sweetheart, I’m going to be a grandmother!” She pulls me into a tight hug, and I can feel her tears on my shoulder. She’s happy, truly happy, and I cling to her, relief washing over me.

When I look over at Stefan, his face is serious, but there’s something else—determination. "Caroline, I’m not leaving. I’m not going anywhere." His words are firm, and I feel a weight lift off my chest. “I love you, and this doesn’t change that. If you’ll let me, I want to be there, to help, to be a father figure to these babies.”

A tear escapes before I can stop it, and I nod. "Of course. Thank you, Stefan. Thank you for not leaving me."

He steps closer and gently kisses my forehead. "I’ll never leave you, Caroline Forbes."

I can barely speak, the emotions so overwhelming, but I manage a soft, "I love you," before he pulls me into a hug again. This time, I don’t want to let go.

But there’s more. “I don’t want anyone else knowing about this,” I say, my voice shaky but resolute. “Especially not Elena. She’ll spread negativity, and I won’t let my kids be affected by that.”

Stefan, Mom, and Finn all nod in agreement, and it feels like a united front forming around me, protecting me and the twins. Finn promises his help with anything I need, and before leaving, he shares his and Kol’s numbers with us.

After Finn’s gone, I turn to my mom. “I’m going back to college tomorrow.”

She smiles, but I can see the sadness in her eyes. “I’ll miss you, sweetheart. But you take care of yourself—and those babies.” She places a hand on my stomach, and for the first time, it feels real—my children. Stefan insists he’ll come with me to Dallas, and my mom’s face lights up even more. “It’s a miracle,” she says, her voice soft with wonder. “I’m going to be a grandmother.”

We all smile at that, and after Stefan leaves, Mom and I sit together, talking about everything. She shares stories of when she was pregnant with me, giving advice and telling me what to expect. Her voice is soothing, and for the first time in days, I feel at peace.

Eventually, I lay my head in her lap, the weight of everything sinking in. I’m going to be a mother. My children will one day rest in my lap like this. And despite all the fear and uncertainty, I know I’m not alone. Not with my mom, Stefan, and even Finn by my side.

As I drift off to sleep, one thought lingers in my mind—I’m ready for this.
