characters: Sebastian Sallow, you
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sebastian Sallow had never found bugs beautiful.
They were icky and got into places they shouldn't be, like the apples he liked to eat.
Anne loved torturing him by chasing him with worms and spiders when they were younger.
A good bug was a dead bug, in a potion, squished and boiled.
And he never thought his opinion would change.
Until he met you.
"Sebastian look at those grasshoppers! They're mating, isn't that fascinating?"
You say with excitement, hurrying over to inspect the pair of insects on the fence.
Sebastian grimaces, shaking his head. "No that's disgusting. They should get a room."
But he looks anyway, at the shining eyes, the slender arms,...the beaming smile.
He watches the grasshoppers fly away after you have carefully pointed out every detail.
He was paying attention to detail too.
To you, this strange bug-loving weirdo he called his friend.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
A cold rainy, muddy day.
One he would much rather spend in the library, reading books on defensive magic.
Yet instead, he finds himself wandering the school grounds defending you, his crazy friend from raindrops with a deflective charm as you wander barefoot in the grass looking for worms that may emerge.
"You know you're crazy right? You're going to catch a cold!" he grumbles, water dripping into his eyes.
You laugh, the sound making Sebastian's heart nearly stop.
"That's why I have you Seb! Come, I want to show you something."
You lay down on your stomach in the grass, patting the spot next to you as you look up at him expectantly, blue eyes dancing, water shining on your cheeks as the sun peeked through.
Sebastian hesitates for a moment before lying down next to you. He pushes his wet curls out of his face and smiles as you point out the heads of the worms poking through the soft ground.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
You look up in surprise as Sebastian Sallow runs towards you, a huge smile on his face.
"You'll never guess what I found! Look!"
He pulls a jar out of his bag, with the rare beetle you had been looking for for months in it.
Sebastian carefully opens the jar and holds the beetle up to the sun. "I can't believe I finally found it!" he exclaims, beaming.
"Here!" he plops it into your hand, fingers lingering a little longer than needed as he guides the beetle away from your sleeve.
If you had noticed, you said nothing as redness climbed up your neck.
"I thought you didn't like bugs Bash," you mention later.
The freckled Slytherin shrugs
"They're not so bad, I guess. Good for plants, for other animals to eat, and they do some pretty bloody cool things too. Did you know female mantises will bite off the male's heads after-"
"After reproducing yes. Just don't do that to me."
Sebastian gapes at you.
"What?!"
"What?!"
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
The forest vivarium, flowers, butterflies, Sebastian.
The perfect day.
You nibble on the end of your pencil before starting to sketch again.
Sebastian chuckles as the baby unicorn nuzzles his cheek, before turning his attention back to you.
"You aren't giving me horns are you?"
"If you mean a unicorn horn, yes. It fits you." You joke back.
He moves over next to you and watches as you fill in the final details, capturing the peaceful atmosphere of the vivarium and his moment with the animals.
"You're very talented, you know." He says.
"No, I'm not."
"Yes you are!" he snatches the sketchbook away from you and starts flipping through it.
"Look, all of this is so good!"
You fear he'll come across the sketch of him with hearts around it.
You chase him around the vivarium and nearly catch him but he climbs up on a rock.
Just as you are about to climb up after him a blue morpho butterfly lands on your nose making you freeze.
"It's so beautiful, isn't it Sebastian?" you say, voice breathy and in awe of this magical creature.
"You sure are."
Your breath catches, shock making your mind swirl. He thought you were beautiful.
"Sebastian...what? I'm not.."
Sebastian steps down off the rock so that he is standing in front of you.
"I mean it matches your eyes," he says softly, almost reverently.
You stare into his eyes, your heart pounding in your chest. He smiles at you and reaches out his hand to gently brush it off. You smile and look away, feeling the blush spread across your face.
Sebastian turns your head, He leans in and kisses you softly on the lips, before pulling away with a smirk.
"You're one beautiful bug."
"Says the bookworm."
