Sebastian regretted it as soon as the word left his lips. Her green eyes widened and flashed with anger before filling with tears. He wished she had screamed at him, hexed him, anything but run from the Undercroft sobbing, her pink hair flying behind her. But still, he was angry. How could she team up with a goblin after everything he had told her? He thought she was on his side. There was a lot more on the line for him than for her. He may lose a sister. As for her all she had was these dumb trials to complete and a goblin to kill. That'd be easy for her. But Anne's curse was still a mystery. And why hadn't Millie asked the Keepers for help before? Didn't she love him? In anger, he set a barrel on fire, "Confringo!" before putting it out when he heard the Undercroft open again. Could she be back?
Ominis had been pacing back and forth in front of the undercroft, his frustration simmering beneath the surface. He had just run into Millie crying after another secret adventure nonetheless. Although originally angry at being forgotten, that changed when he learned that Sebastian had spoken ill of her, calling her ignorant for being friends with a goblin. This hit a nerve, and he was determined to confront Sebastian.
As Ominis entered, Sebastian looked up from his relic research, his eyes filled with a mix of surprise and defiance. "Ominis, what a surprise," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?"
Ominis stepped forward, his voice laced with anger. "Tell me why I just ran into Millie crying?!" He took a deep breath, steadying himself before continuing. " You called her ignorant?! I must say, Sebastian, you're being the ignorant one here, not her."
Sebastian crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes, clearly irritated. "Oh, really?" he asked, his voice dripping with arrogance. "And what makes you so sure?"
Ominis's voice was sharp. "Well, for one thing, Millie has always been thoughtful when it comes to you. She has always made the best choices for the ones she loves even if they aren't good for her." He gestured towards Sebastian to prove his point.
Sebastian's face flushed with anger. "I'm just stating the facts, Ominis," he retorted. "Millie is reckless and foolish to trust goblins." He crossed his arms with a huff, "And I do love her."
Ominis's eyes flashed with irritation. "And what makes you so certain?" he asked. "Have you ever taken the time to get to know a goblin? Did you even bother to listen to her, to understand why she befriended him?"
Sebastian's stubborn expression remained unchanged. "No, of course not," he retorted. "I have witnessed their treachery firsthand, so I won't stand by and let Millie be blinded by their deceit!"
Ominis shook his head, his voice tinged with sadness. "It takes ignorance to assume that all goblins are the same, Sebastian," he said, his voice filled with disappointment. "And it takes cruelty to judge Millie so harshly." His voice hardened again, "You're the blind one."
Sebastian bristled at the comment, but Ominis continued, his voice unyielding. "Millie is intelligent, ambitious, and discerning," he said. "She knows exactly what she is doing. But instead of appreciating her courage and open-mindedness, you chose to condemn her."
Sebastian's temper flared, and he shot back, his voice full of venom. "I will not apologize for speaking the truth, Ominis," he said, his eyes blazing with anger. "She is being foolish! She has seen what they have done, to Felcroft and Anne and still befriends one?! How can it be wrong to call her out for her ignorance?"
Ominis's expression softened, and he stepped forward, his voice gentle but firm. "I understand that you have your biases, Sebastian," he said. "But I think it is time for you to recognize your cruelty. She has always been supportive of you, and truthful. It was very brave of her to share that with you, considering your predisposed hatred towards goblins and likeliness to react so dramatically. She wouldn't have told you unless she wanted to help. Millie deserves your respect and admiration, not your judgment."
