“Babygirl, you look absolutely stunning,” Vidisha said, applying a black kohl below my ear.

My lips formed a satisfactory smile and I turned my eyes to glance at my best friend, standing gracefully in her ivory lehenga.

“How much are you going to demand from him?” I pointed, standing from the chair and turning right to left admiring the final look of my pastel pink lehenga he sent.

“Di, I’m going to miss you,” Nikhil said, walking inside the room and wrapping his arms around me.

“I’m just getting engaged today.” I cheered him up, cupping his face. “ But you’re leaving us in two weeks. Why so soon? Who’s going to take care of Maa in your absence?” A lone tear escaped from my eyes at the thought.

“Just call me and I’ll come to meet you” I assured him, grabbing a tissue from the table to wipe away my tears.

“Promise?” He asked, offering his palm.

“Pakka wala promise” I affirmed and placed my palm above his.

Walking outside the room, I looked at the influential people gathered, invited by both families and found him sitting on the sofa on the stage, busy conversing with my cousin, Natasha.

“Everyone, Pankti Bhabhi is here,” Kiara announced, walking on the stage and reminding his brother of my presence.

He walked down wearing a sharp blue tuxedo and extended his hand towards me “Good evening, Mrs. Pankti Avyukta Raghuvanshi.” His face lightened up with the smile and the usual sparkle roamed in his eyes.

“Avyukta Raghuvanshi, 5 lakhs in my bank account before you take my bestie with you” Vidisha blocked our way, standing straight and her fingers counted imaginary notes.

“6 lakhs done. I’ll be sending you the cheque tomorrow morning.” His acceptance words caused a ripple of surprise among the guests.

“Bad luck. I should have asked for ten lakhs instead” She said with disappointment realizing the missed golden opportunity.

“We’re left with the jutte chupai rasam.” He added, holding my hand and walking towards the stage.

As we approached the stage for the ring ceremony, my eyes admired the intricate mehendi on my hands, clutching the heavy embroidery sequins work designed on my lehenga.

“Here we go,” Vidisha said, handing me the ring as everyone waited in anticipation to witness the engagement ceremony binding Kundras and Raghuvanshis together.
