Minji POV:
Haerin was sitting next to me on the bench by the pond, her gaze fixed on the frogs hopping from stone to stone in the shallow water. She never said much, but that's why I liked her. She never needed to. And more importantly, she never judged me.
"Haerin, I did it," I said, trying to sound casual, though my heart pounded in my chest.
"Did what?" she asked, her voice soft as usual. Her cat-like eyes flickered toward me briefly, the faintest hint of curiosity showing.
"I took one of her books. Hanni's."
She blinked, processing, but didn't react much beyond that. Haerin was the only one who knew the depth of my obsession with Hanni, but even she didn't fully grasp how far I was willing to go. And she never asked too many questions. Maybe she thought it was just some harmless crush.
"Now I have a reason to talk to her again," I added, a smirk tugging at my lips. "This is going to work. I know it."
Haerin nodded slightly, her focus shifting back to the frogs. "You are so weird. Just be careful."
She always said that. Nothing more, nothing less. I could tell she didn't like my fixation on Hanni, but she wouldn't say anything that might upset me. That was Haerin. Quiet, supportive, and always just... there. Even though she didn't fully understand.
We sat in silence for a while longer, the wind gently rustling the trees around us. I was already planning how I'd return the book, what I'd say, how I'd make her notice me.
She will notice me.

Hanni POV:
"You what?!" Dani's loud, cheerful voice rang out through the dorm room.
I shot her a look, raising a finger to my lips. "Shh! Keep it down!"
Dani's eyes sparkled with her usual excitement, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. "You bumped into her! I knew it would happen eventually!" She bounced on the balls of her feet, the embodiment of energy, while I sat nervously on the edge of my bed.
"It wasn't planned," I mumbled, playing with the edge of my notebook. "But it happened. And it was... awkward."
Dani giggled. "Who cares if it was awkward? You got to touch her stuff, right? That's a win!"
I sighed, trying to hold back my smile. Dani always knew how to make me feel better, even when I was drowning in anxiety. She was the only one who knew about my obsession with Minji, well... the parts I'd told her, at least. She always acted like it was no big deal, but she didn't realize how much I thought about Minji every single day.
"She barely noticed me," I said, running my hand through my hair. "I feel like such an idiot. What if I blew my chance?"
Dani plopped down beside me, slinging an arm over my shoulder. "Hanni, you're overthinking this. You've got the rest of the semester to make your move. Just... relax. Play it cool."
I nodded, trying to let her optimism rub off on me. Dani had this way of making everything seem like sunshine and rainbows, even when my thoughts were darker than I'd ever admit.
Suddenly, a knock came at the door, and Hyein stuck her head in, her face scrunched up in a pout. "Are you two coming? I've been waiting forever!"
Dani hopped off the bed, her bubbly energy returning in full force. "Sorry, sorry! We're coming, promise!"
I followed behind them as we headed out, my mind still buzzing with thoughts of Minji. Dani might have been my best friend, but even she didn't know the full extent of how far I was willing to go.

Haerin POV:
I glanced up from my sketchbook as Dani entered the café, her arm slung over Hanni's shoulder, Hyein talking beside them mentioning something about a peanut butter banana sandwich dance. A smile tugged at my lips as me and Dani caught view of each other, Dani had that effect on me, her presence was like a warm beam of sunlight in my life.
She waved as she approached our usual spot, pulling out a chair beside me. Hanni sat down too, chatting away about something I wasn't paying attention to. I liked Hanni; she was nice, friendly. I saw why Minji liked her, they would be good for each other. But something about her always felt... distant. I never understood why. As if she had something else on her mind. Something unsettling.
"Babe, you okay?" Dani asked, leaning in closer, her soft, familiar scent calming me instantly
I nodded, giving her a small smile. "Yeah, just... thinking, you know I saw a frog the other day."
Dani always knew when something was off, but she never pried. That was part of why I loved her. Dani and I had our own little bubble, and that was enough.
As the conversation flowed around me, I found myself thinking about Minji. She had been acting strange lately, distracted, distant. I knew why, of course. It was always about Hanni.

Danielle POV:
I nudged Haerin playfully under the table, giving her a wink. "Come on, babe, you're too quiet today."
She smiled back at me, she's probably too busy thinking about something random like uh... tomato frog. Sounds like something she'd like. Score, future gift idea, your welcome future Dani.
As we all sat together, I couldn't help but feel a little smug. Hanni had no idea that Minji was friends with Haerin, and Minji had no idea I was friends with Hanni. I think if they did, me and Haerin would turn into public enemy number one. I mean, they never did ask if we knew the other so...
let's just see how this plays out.
