Minji POV:

The book felt heavier in my hands than it should have. I had memorized every detail of Hanni's daily life, carefully tracing her steps without her knowing. Yet, here I was, standing in the library, pretending this was just a random moment. My fingers grazed the wrapping, the paper crackling softly as I approached her.

Hanni was seated at her usual spot, her brow furrowed as she scribbled notes. She didn't see me coming... yet. I stood there for a second longer than necessary, savoring the proximity, before finally speaking.

"Excuse me," I said, keeping my voice light, casual. "I think I took this by mistake. It belongs to you, right?"

Hanni looked up, her eyes flickering in surprise, like she hadn't already noticed me. But there was no way she could have, not in the way I had been studying her for weeks. She smiled politely, taking the book from my hands, her fingers brushing against mine. My heart thrummed at the contact, but I kept my cool.

"Oh, thanks. I thought it was gone for good," she replied, her voice soft and pleasant. She glanced down at the cover, not realizing how intimately familiar I already was with it. "I appreciate you returning it."

I forced a small laugh. "No problem. I'm Minji, by the way. I don't think we've met before?"

Hanni's smile barely faltered, though her eyes flashed with something, hesitation? Maybe she was piecing together that we shared the same classes, that we'd been walking the same halls for longer than this brief encounter suggested.

But her response was effortless, her tone smooth. "Hanni. Nice to meet you."

We both knew that was a lie, but we played along like actors in a carefully scripted scene. Each of us, pretending we didn't already know everything about the other.

"So, I've been struggling with my biology class," I said, leaning into the conversation as naturally as possible. "Any chance you'd be willing to help me out?"

Hanni blinked, her head tilting slightly. "Biology, huh?" She let out a soft laugh, the sound sending a shiver down my spine. "I guess I could help. What's your schedule like?"

I passed her my phone, and she hesitated just briefly before entering her number. As she handed it back, my fingers brushed against hers again, intentionally, this time.

"Thanks," I said, smiling. "I'll text you, and we can set something up."

"Sure," she replied, her smile genuine, like she didn't already know that I would be texting her the moment she walked away.

As I turned to leave, a rush of excitement swept over me. I had just set everything into motion. A phone number, a study session soon, I wouldn't have to watch from afar anymore. Soon, she'd be mine.

Hanni POV:

Minji's departure left a strange chill in the air. I glanced down at the book in my hands, my fingers tightening around the edges. This interaction had felt... too perfect. Almost as if she had planned it. But that was impossible. She didn't know anything about me. She couldn't know that I had already studied every aspect of her life, the times she left the dorms, the quiet corners where she preferred to sit, even the route she took home. No, she didn't know that I had been watching her for weeks. This was just coincidence.

I slipped the book into my bag, trying to steady the flutter in my chest. The moment she had handed me her phone to enter my number, I had felt a thrill I couldn't quite suppress. Her fingers against mine, the briefest of touches—it was all I needed to feel that connection.

As I left the library, I checked my phone, already seeing the message she had promised.

"Can't wait to set up our study session :)" I stared at the screen for a moment, feeling the corners of my lips curl. Minji was getting closer, closer than she even realized. But she didn't know, she couldn't know, that I had already made up my mind about her. We were playing a game, but only one of us could win.

I tapped out a quick reply, trying to keep it light. Casual. Friendly. "Looking forward to it. Let me know what works for you."

I knew everything about her, and she knew nothing about me.

Or so I thought.

Minji POV:

I watched from across the quad as Hanni walked away, her phone clutched tightly in her hand. The excitement bubbling in my chest was almost unbearable. I had her phone number now, a direct line to her. It was like a door opening, inviting me further into her life.

Everything was falling into place. I had watched her for so long, waiting for the perfect opportunity to bring us together. And now, we had our first connection, however small. But there was something else. Something that gnawed at me. Was she just being polite? Was she suspicious? Or had she noticed me before, lingering on the edges of her life? I couldn't tell.

I wouldn't let it bother me, though. I was too careful. Too good at hiding. Hanni couldn't know the extent of my obsession, yet.

As I turned away, I felt my phone vibrate with her reply. A simple message, but it was enough to send a surge of satisfaction through me.

We were on the edge of something bigger. I could feel it.

Hanni POV:

I left the library, feeling Minji's eyes on me. Even though I didn't look back, I could sense her watching. It wasn't just a casual interaction—it couldn't be. Not with the way she'd lingered, not with the way her fingers had brushed against mine.

I tightened my grip on my phone, still buzzing from her message. She thought she was in control, that she had orchestrated this encounter. But she had no idea that I had been pulling the strings all along.

Soon enough, we'd be spending more time together. Studying biology, sitting close, sharing secrets that weren't really secrets at all. But for now, I'd let her believe it was all just a happy accident.

After all, it was only a matter of time before Minji was mine.
