The warmth of the sun had lulled Jamie into a dozing state, her mind drifting into a peaceful haze. She heard Kika's soft voice, speaking to Simba as she played with the little dog, her tone calm and gentle. Jamie's body felt heavy, and the sun's rays made it almost impossible to resist falling asleep. Just as she was about to give in, her eyes fluttered open, and she sat up, rubbing her face with her hands.
Kika looked over at her, raising an eyebrow. "Why didn't you just take a nap? You looked like you needed it."
Jamie stretched, shaking her head slightly. "We're not here to sleep, we're here to spend time together. I don't want to waste it napping."
Kika smiled knowingly. "Fair enough. How about we play with Simba? He's got way too much energy."
Jamie nodded, and they grabbed a small ball to throw for Simba. The little dog was more than happy to run after it, his tail wagging furiously as he brought it back each time, clearly enjoying the game. The time in the park was peaceful, and for the first time in days, Jamie felt like she could finally relax. After a while, the two women sat back down, exhausted from all the play.
Later that day, Jamie decided to message Kean, sending him her number again after everything that had happened. She barely had time to put her phone down before he responded, asking if she was free later that evening. Jamie's heart skipped a beat.
"I'll be back at the hotel around 8 p.m.," she replied, already feeling a flicker of excitement.
"Perfect," Kean texted back. "I'll show up at 9, even if I get another mysterious message saying the date's canceled."
Jamie chuckled, shaking her head. "I'll be ready," she typed, feeling more hopeful than she had in days. Kika noticed the smile on her face and raised an eyebrow.
"Who's making you so happy?" Kika asked, clearly curious.
Jamie leaned forward, still grinning. "It's Kean. There was a misunderstanding about the date last night. Someone sent him a fake message pretending to be me, canceling the date."
Kika's jaw dropped in surprise. "Who would do that?"
Jamie shrugged, her smile fading slightly. "I have no idea. But whoever it is, they're a real asshole."
They packed up their things and decided it was time to head back to the hotel since it was getting late. On the way, they talked about everything and nothing, laughing as they made plans for the next few days. Once they arrived, Kika wished Jamie good luck on her second chance with Kean and went to her room. Jamie, feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves, went to her own room to get ready.
After a long, warm shower, Jamie stood in front of her wardrobe, thinking about what to wear. She finally decided on a pair of blue shorts and a white crop top, pairing them with her white and orange Nikes. She accessorized with her favorite emerald earrings and a golden necklace Alex had given her years ago. Satisfied with how she looked, Jamie sat down and touched up her makeup, taking a moment to admire her reflection.
The clock told her she had about thirty minutes left before Kean was set to arrive, so she used the time to call Lily. Jamie caught her up on everything that had happened, from the fake message to her budding connection with Kean. Lily was shocked by the details but promised to be there for the Grand Prix soon.
As the call ended, Jamie realized it was time to head to the lobby. She made her way downstairs, feeling a surge of nervous energy. When she reached the lobby, she spotted a group of drivers standing together—Alex, Logan, Oscar, Lando, George, and Pierre. They were deep in conversation, but Jamie had no interest in joining them.
