The restless night had taken its toll on Jamie. She couldn't shake the memory of the kiss with Lando, the way he had grabbed her neck and pulled her toward him, the intensity of it all. She kept brushing her fingers over her lips, replaying the moment in her mind. Why had he interrupted her with Kean? Why had he kissed her? And how had he known that Jamie secretly preferred a guy who was direct, someone who loves to take control?
She hated that Lando wasn't wrong. Despite how nice the date with Kean had been, and despite the fondness she'd had for Chris during their relationship, Jamie had always been drawn to men who showed their emotions—whether they were mad, jealous, or passionate. It made her realize why her relationship with Chris had fizzled out. There hadn't been that spark, that fire. They'd become too comfortable. And while Chris's betrayal had hurt, there was a sense of relief in letting that relationship go.
But Lando's kiss? That had been anything but comfortable. It had been raw and intense, and no matter how much she tried, she couldn't stop thinking about it. Her mind raced with questions that she knew she wouldn't get answers to. Lando had thrown her world off balance in just one night, and she was still reeling from it.
When exhaustion finally claimed her, Jamie slipped into a fitful sleep.
The next day, the sun was already high in the sky when she woke up. She reached for her phone, noticing a few messages—one from Kika, another from Kean, and a few from Alex and George. Sighing, she replied to each one and dragged herself out of bed. A cold shower was the only way to shake the lingering thoughts from the previous day.
After the shower, Jamie dressed in a floral-patterned dress that made her feel light and carefree. She curled her hair and applied some makeup, trying to push away the tension from last night. She checked herself in the mirror, feeling more composed, but the thoughts of Lando still lingered.
Before heading out, she texted Alex, letting him know she was planning to visit a small art gallery near the track. She needed the distraction. It wasn't long before Alex replied, reminding her about the pre-season dinner tonight. She groaned in frustration. She had completely forgotten about the dinner. The last thing she wanted was to be around Lando, but there was no way to avoid it.
She spent the next few hours at the art gallery, getting lost in the stories behind the paintings and sculptures. It was peaceful, a perfect escape from the whirlwind of emotions that had plagued her the last few days. One of the gallery staff, a kind woman, showed her around and shared the history behind several pieces. Jamie found herself relaxing, finally able to let go—if only for a little while.
But the peace didn't last long. Her phone buzzed with a message from Alex, telling her he was outside, ready to pick her up for dinner. She thanked the gallery employee and walked outside, where Alex was leaning casually against the car, waiting for her.
"How was your day?" Jamie asked, smiling as she approached.
Alex grinned back. "Pretty good. We had a solid training session this morning. How about you?"
Jamie shrugged. "The gallery was amazing. I love getting lost in art. It helps clear my mind."
As they got into the car and started driving, Jamie's thoughts turned back to last night. She glanced at Alex, her brother's face calm and focused on the road. She hadn't told him everything about what had happened with Lando, but she knew she needed to. It wasn't something she could keep to herself, especially not after how close they were as siblings.
"Alex, there's something I need to tell you," she started, her voice hesitant.
Alex glanced at her, his expression softening. "What's up?"
