O' C O N N O R🍂

Tapping slightly on the steering wheel our conversation replays in my head. She is willing to work and she seems to be a good fit for the position she applied for.

She had all the required levels of education and based on the anonymous interview earlier she is goal oriented, a team player, a creative and innovative person and she seems to work well under pressure.

Pulling up to the gates they automatically open and I drive through, grabbing my binders and documents I step out of the car. Noise greets my ears when I step through the door.

My sister jumps in my arms and my mother walks out of the kitchen with the phone pressed to her ear.

Chilling and talking to them for a while they both grew tired and I told them good night.

Heading upstairs I took a shower and signed some contracts and returned some important emails.

I grew tired but was unable to sleep so I went down to the kitchen in search of any liquor, grabbing a bottle of Grey Goose and a cup I head to the my room.

Sliding the glass doors to the balcony the cold air greets me as I take a seat in the wooden chair and pour a bit of alcohol in my cup before placing the bottle on the table.

Hearing my phone ring I head inside to retrieve it from the bedside table.  Picking it up I see that it is Kimmy, answering I press the phone to my ear.

"Suh yuh couldn't call and tell mi seh unu reach, well she messaged me" he rants.

"Hm mhm" I answered uninterested taking a sip of my liquor.

"Yuh interrupt mi medz time" I said

"Chargie mi soon come off a yuh banga" rolling my eyes she continues.

"Wait, Yanique a call mi" that caught my attention.

"Who" I asked acting oblivious.

"Anyways, mi ago call her back later, she so pretty bro" she said

Afterwards I listen to her rant about someone who wanted to race her on the highway in her Porsche 911 Turbo.  She gave him a headstart and she still managed to win.

After many"mhm's' "cool's" and "eeeh's" she was finally wrapping up, well so I thought.

"Suh weh yuh think bout the girl, she so pretty bro, Whyte a tell mi seh she come fi one interview but yuh did already leave.  Why yuh always a be hard pon the people dem" she said all at once not giving me time to respond.

"I'm not necessarily being hard on any one of them I just don't see the qualities coming out that could be useful.  As for Miss Williams she seems to be the best fit.  When ya guh find a man suh yuh can stop call mi so late a night" I spoke running my hand over my face.

"Give me one nuh, waitttt-" she paused remembering something.

"Mi meet this cutie-patootie the other day"

"Cutie what?" I interjected

"Don't worry, he's a nice guy, he invited me on a date" she said giggling like a school girl in love.

"Oh that's good, are you going" I asked

"Yesss I'm going mi need a little spouse now, yuh nuh see how the time cold" she said

"Wa bout you, yuh nuh cold, find somebody" she add.

Yea time to wrap it up

"Yea man good night Kimmy"

"Stop run from love, yuh need fi find somebody" she said, I just rolled my eyes and hanged up.

Running my hand over my face in frustration I think about what life would've been like if I made different decisions and if my father didn't die.

Once again I am in my own world, perplexed by my thoughts and captured by my own peace pirates.

Hearing the balcony door open I continue to stare at the moon.

"Son, are you okay" a gentle voice pulls me back to reality. Nodding my head we stay silent for a bit until soft sniffles could be heard.

"Yea, mi alright," I finally say, still looking at di moon. "Just deep inna mi thoughts, yuh know?"

Di gentle voice replies, "Mi understand, sometimes it hard fi deal wid everything. Yuh can talk to mi if yuh want."

"Mi appreciate it," I say softly, feeling di warmth of di moment. "Just thinking 'bout life and how things coulda different."

The silence stretches again, but it feels comforting, like a soft blanket on a cold night.

Looking at her I follow her line of sight to my hands.  Fidgeting with the ring on my finger I immediately stop realizing it is the ring that my father left with me.

"I miss him" she voiced.

"Aimée looks so much like him and since that day I've never been able to look at another man, but I'm so lonely.  A just Aimée a keep mi company and she soon get old and go live pon her own like you" she continued.

"Mommy mi nuh gone no weh, just call mi and mi deh a yuh foot"

Hugging me she stood up pushing up the balcony door and leaves my room.

Taking another sip of my drink I close my eyes until sleep decides to envelop me.
