The morning sunlight streamed through my window, casting a warm glow. Spring Fling tonight! I felt like a kid on Christmas morning, excitement buzzing in my veins. I spent hours perfecting my outfit, trying on different combinations, and finally settling on a flowing silver dress that shimmered in the light.

As I finished getting ready, the sweet scent of blooming flowers wafted through the air, carried by the gentle breeze. The sound of birds chirping outside created a soothing melody. Tyler arrived promptly at 7 pm, his sky blue eyes sparkling as he handed me a corsage – a delicate silver flower that matched my dress.

At Spring Fling, Tyler and I danced, lost in the music. The DJ's beat pulsed through the crowd, and colorful lights flashed around us. As the night wore on, Tyler slipped his arms around my waist, and I wrapped mine around his neck. We swayed slowly, our eyes locked.

Just as our lips touched, my phone rang. I hesitated, reluctant to break the moment. "Leave it," Tyler whispered. But the ringing persisted. I glanced at the screen – Ava. "Ava, what's wrong?" I answered. "Luke's becoming aggressive," Ava said, urgency in her voice.

We decided to leave, the night air cooling our heated faces. As we drove, the darkness outside seemed to close in. Tyler took a detour, navigating through deserted streets. "Where are we?" I asked. "Somewhere special," Tyler replied.

We parked beside a serene lake, its surface reflecting the starry sky. Tyler shared stories of his childhood, of summers spent by this lake with his grandfather. His laughter echoed through the night.

"Maya, I feel so alive with you," Tyler confessed. Our hands touched, sparks flying. Suddenly, a twig snapped. Tyler's expression changed. "Stay close," he whispered.

The darkness seemed oppressive. As we drove away, the lake's serenity faded. "Tyler, what's wrong?" I asked. "Nothing," he replied. But his grip on the wheel tightened.

"We're being followed," he whispered. My heart raced. "By who?" I asked. Tyler's eyes locked onto mine. "My brother." "Your brother?" I repeated. Tyler's expression turned grim. "Luke."

The world around me froze. "Luke?" I repeated, my voice barely audible. Tyler's expression turned grim. "My brother." A million questions swirled in my mind.

"How?" I managed to ask. Tyler's eyes darted to the rearview mirror. "Luke's
been searching for me," he whispered. Fear gripped my heart.

"Why?" I demanded. Tyler hesitated. "Our family's past... it's complicated," he began. As we sped through deserted streets, Tyler revealed fragments of his family's dark history.

"Luke's anger... it's rooted in our childhood," Tyler explained. Their father's abuse, their mother's silence. "Luke's pain turned to rage," Tyler whispered.

My heart ached for Tyler, for the pain he'd endured. "We need to get out of here," Tyler urged. We arrived at a secluded cabin.

"Where are we?" I asked. "Someplace safe," Tyler replied. But safety felt elusive. As night fell, Tyler's words echoed in my mind.

"Luke's my brother." The truth shook me. I felt a chill run down my spine as I realized the danger that lurked in the shadows.

Tyler's phone buzzed, breaking the silence. He hesitated before answering. "Tyler," he said, his voice firm.

A pause.

"I know, Ava," Tyler replied, his eyes locked onto mine.

Another pause.

"I'll handle it." Tyler ended the call.

"Ava?" I asked.

Tyler nodded. "She's worried about Luke."

The cabin's silence seemed oppressive.

"What's going to happen?" I asked.

Tyler's expression turned grim.

"I'll protect you, Maya."

But uncertainty lingered.
