Her pov
As Taehyung and the woman slowly pulled apart from their embrace, she tenderly cupped his cheeks, her touch light as a feather, and pressed a soft, affectionate kiss onto his forehead. His boxy smile lit up his entire face, and from where I stood, it felt as though they were reuniting after months, perhaps even years. The joy radiating from him was palpable-his cheeks must have ached from all the smiling.
I watched them from a distance, marveling at their bond, and my heart warmed at the sight. There was something so pure in the way they interacted, and for a brief moment, I felt like an outsider peeking into a private world.
As they made their way toward me, Taehyung walking beside her with that ever-present grin, I quickly gathered myself. Not wanting to appear disrespectful, I bowed at a full 90-degree angle, my voice soft and composed as I greeted her. But no matter how hard I tried to mask it, the nervousness was clear on my face, betraying my attempts to stay calm.
The moment I straightened up, she surprised me by pulling me into a warm embrace. Her motherly scent enveloped me, and my arms hesitantly but delicately found their way around her back. There was something so comforting about the gesture, something that took me back to memories long tucked away.
When she pulled away, another surprise followed-she gently placed a tender kiss on my forehead. The simplicity of the gesture sent waves of emotion through me, and suddenly, I was transported to a time when my own mother used to do the same. The memories hit me like a tidal wave, vivid scenes from my childhood flooding my heart. My eyes moistened as a genuine smile broke across my face.
"How are you, my child?" she asked, her voice rich with boundless affection and warmth. It was the kind of voice that could soothe any worry.
"I'm fine, Mrs..." I trailed off, uncertain how to address her, feeling slightly embarrassed by my lack of knowledge.
Her eyes widened in playful shock. "Omo, you don't know me?" she asked, a soft laugh escaping her lips as I bashfully shook my head, looking down in embarrassment.
I turned my gaze toward Taehyung, hoping he might save me from this awkward moment, only to find him completely zoned out, lost in his own world.
"You brat, what is this?" she scolded, her tone teasing as she reached for Taehyung's ear, giving it a gentle tug.
And just like that, Kim Taetae snapped back to reality.
The absurdity of the scene before me was too much to handle. I couldn't stop the giggles that escaped my lips, drawing both of their attention. I quickly covered my mouth, apologizing through my laughter, "I'm sorry, it's just... I've never seen him get scolded before."
They both smiled at me, and I felt my heart settle, as if I was exactly where I was meant to be.
"Sweetheart, please leave my precious ear, it's already red, I am sorry," Taehyung pleaded, his voice soft and playful, while a small pout formed on his lips.
Despite his attempt to charm his way out of the situation, she tugged on his ear a little harder, causing him to whine in mock protest. His face scrunched up in exaggerated pain, though the twinkle in his eyes showed he wasn't truly upset.
The scene unfolding before me was both comical and heartwarming. Watching Taehyung, who always carried himself with such confidence, reduced to a whining child by the woman clearly so dear to him, was a sight I never expected to witness. Even through his protests, it was evident just how much love and affection they shared.
