Two weeks had flown by and I was already starting to bring up my math grade. I was maintaining around an A or B average on my homework and I did a review sheet every night just for extra practice.
Even if I didn't do that well on my homework, Anthony would be understanding and do it again with me until we got it down.
I was starting to get used to him, it was still weird seeing him in my house and sitting down at my place at the table but it wasn't so bad.
It was around four thirty and a Saturday when Anthony came over, officially marking two weeks that I've had him as a tutor.
"Hey, Anthony." I said as I lifted my head up from the table.
"Hello, Garrett. How's school been?" He asked as he set his bag down.
"Fine, I guess. We have a test on Monday." I replied.
"I see, do you feel confident about it?" He asked and reached for my shoulders to rub them.
I tensed up the second he did, I hated when he touched me. "Sort of, I think we need to review the part about right triangles."
"We can do that, but first I wanted to ask you something." Anthony leaned down by my ear.
Before he could say anything, my mom came downstairs with a basket of laundry in her hands.
Anthony started laughing and patted my shoulder, he looked towards the stairs with a smile. "Mrs. Winslow, your son is a natural born comedian!"
"Oh, that's Garrett. He's always loved to make people laugh." My mother smiled back and headed to the basement with the basket.
Anthony's grin disappeared when she was gone. "That was too close."
"Yeah, so what were you gonna ask?" I looked at him.
"I forgot, guess it wasn't that important. Let's get to work." He walked away from me and sat down.
"Hey," I said as he checked the review sheet I did last night. "You should really apply for Hollywood, your laughter was great. My mom was truly convinced."
"Thank you, but I couldn't be an actor, not when I have a job to do. You know, like you did last night," He pointed at my review sheet, "This is half done, why's that?"
"Oh, I was having a hard time on problem five and I thought I would ask you for help." I replied.
"I appreciate that, you need to learn how to advocate for yourself." Anthony opened his bag and took out a pencil. "Do you have any homework from yesterday?"
"Yeah, I just don't wanna do it though." I said and leaned back in my chair.
"Why not?" He asked.
I shrugged, "It's too hard. Math still isn't really clicking."
"Uh, huh. Well then, we'll start with finishing this worksheet and then we'll move on to the homework." Anthony handed my review sheet back.
It took about forty five minutes, but after it was done. I sat back and smiled, finally satisfied with my work. I was glad that he was so patient, my mom or dad would have given up if they tried to help me.
"Good boy. now, let's do your homework." Anthony looked somewhat annoyed as he pulled my homework towards him. I guess I had a habit of draining people out.
"I don't want too. Maybe we should quit while we're ahead." I didn't even want to look at that homework, I tried so hard to pay attention yesterday but it was almost impossible because of how confusing it was.
