“Urmila…”
He breathed in a heavy sigh as He walked into Their room, one last time.
She lay there peacefully, wrapped in duvets and sleeping like a baby. All the curtains had been drawn and only a lamp kept burning in a corner, the only source of light in the room.
It was too dark to navigate around the room, but somehow Lakshmana found His way towards Her. He had been here in this room many times and He could not mistake His steps.
But it was also the last time He was walking here, before He bid His final adieu to His beloved Wife.
“Urmila, I am sorry. Please forgive Me for pushing You alone in this darkness. You're a dutiful Wife who is supporting Her Husband by doing all She can; including sacrificing Her happiness for the sake of Her elder sister.”
He touched Her forehead, but when She didn't respond, He knew for sure that Nidra Devi had cast Her magic on Her.
So the rumours were true. She indeed had prayed to Nidra Devi all night long.
He held Her palm in His and brought Her hand to His forehead. A small tear escaped His eye. The rather stoic Lakshman could not keep His emotions masked anymore.
He took a moment to just absorb everything. His entire life had changed in a moment. He had to endure sufferings; but unlike His elder brother Rama who was forced to go through all this, He had chosen this path for Himself.
Realising that He was getting late and His brother must be waiting for Him, He quickly got up and took big strides to walk out through the door.
“I promise even in the forests when I am away, I'll always think of You and maintain My celibacy, because I've vowed My chastity to You. Thank you so much for waiting for My advent. I will be back soon.”
He quickly walked out of the dark room into the hallway again.

“Rama! Rama! Please don't go!”
Dashratha ran after Rama, helplessly, in a state of unkempt attire. His hair was messy and His clothes were almost flying away. But all He cared about was His beloved son who was rather a part of His heart.
The entire Ayodhya was assembled at the doorsteps of the palace. All the Queens were gathered there too, to have Their one last glance at Their sons.
“I take My words back! I take My promises back! Oh Kaikeyi! You evil woman!” He pushed Her away, when She tried to hold Him to prevent Him from falling.
Kaikeyi realised what She had done. She looked pitifully at Rama, who held no grudges but only a smile on His face.
“What joy will You find by robbing a father of His son? You're doomed to sorrow. I will have You and Your wicked Manthara banished from My kingdom.” Dashratha was fuming in agony and pain.
