"Our beautiful elder daughter has grown up so soon."
King Janaka spoke, beaming from side to side, as He looked at His daughters playing in the palace gardens, from the terrace. "She is so understanding and kind. I'm proud of Her. She would make the perfect Queen."
Queen Sunayana stepped forward and touched His shoulder. She was smiling widely, and dressed in Her royal clothes and jewellery. They had planned to visit Rishi Vishwamitra's ashram in the evening.
Rishi Vishwamitra was held in very high regard, and was revered for His knowledge. He was previously a King, but had now turned into an ascetic. When Kaushika was challenged by Rishi Vashishtha, He undertook great penance to transform into a Brahmarishi, and gain all prowess of divine weaponry, and this is how Rishi Vishwamitra was born.
King Janaka felt that He would be perfect for teaching His daughter about higher wisdom, who knew about the societal ways and also the ways of the monarch.
"Soon We shall have to find a groom for Her."
King Janaka hoffed. "Huh! At Least let Me spend My precious time with Her as long as She stays and plays in the garden of Her paternal home. She will soon be married and gone to a foreign land. Who knows when We will get to spend time together, or even meet regularly? Live in the present, Sunayana, this is a precious gift, and that's why it's called the present."
Queen Sunayana shook Her head. "Of course, We should celebrate the present. But have You not thought about the future? We should begin looking for suitable and prospective grooms. It's Our responsibility as Her parents to make sure She is married into a good household."
King Janaka turned to face Her. His smile was gone and now He looked more serious than ever.
"Who said it's Our headache to find Her a groom? Let the Shiva Dhanush take care of it! Have You forgotten Lord Parshurama's prophecy?"
Oh the Shiva Dhanush! Pinaka! How could I forget this great detail. It holds a lot of importance in Sita's life.
"Sure, that's fit for Sita, Your elder daughter. But what about Your younger one? Urmila? She's even more mischievous and I wonder who can keep up with Her tantrums. I'll miss Her voice in Our backyard and Her laughter amidst the palace corridors."
King Janaka got teary eyed at Her statement. Majorly a practical woman, but Queen Sunayana was a perfect blend of profundity with practicality. Yet, She spoke with no expression of sorrow.
"We shall make sure that all the daughters of Mithila are married in the same household, so that they have each other atleast for company."
Queen Sunayana smiled. What She was trying to convey, found it's conclusion.
Perfect.
She walked away to give instructions for their trip to the ashram.
