We reached the ferris wheel and I bought our tickets, watching as the wheel spun.
I couldn't help but think about how romantic it was, especially since we were still holding hands. But it didn't feel uncomfortable or foreign. It felt familiar and comforting, and I couldn't help but smile at it.
Soon enough, it was our turn to go on. We walked in and sat next to each other, our hands still conjoined.
Then, we started to move up. I laughed softly at the beautiful view from above.
~Dimitri~
I couldn't stop myself from staring at her. Her laugh was like music to my ears. I watched the view with her, also chuckling, not only at the beauty of the view but also of her.
"This is so fun!" She exclaimed, smiling from ear to ear.
"Yeah, it really is." I smiled, looking in her eyes.
"Thank you for coming here with me today," She said softly, returning my gaze. "I really appreciate it."We leaned closer to each other, neither one of us breaking eye contact, until I could feel her breathing softly on my face. I looked down at her perfect lips and back to her eyes.
She leaned forward, closing her eyes and puckering her lips slightly. I held her cheek with one hand, drawing closer and closer to her. Our lips were millimetres apart, about to touch when--
Suddenly, our carriage jerked sideways, ruining the moment. We stumbled in shock and looked out of the windows. We weren't moving anymore.
We were stuck at the very top. Together.
I looked towards Jayda. She was in a state of panic. We definitely were not expecting to get stuck at the top of a ferris wheel. Jayda wasn't too fond of heights either. I could tell that she went on in a spur-of-the-moment decision, but her fear came flooding back.
I squeezed her trembling hand. "Hey, it's going to be okay. Don't worry, nothing is going to happen to you." I said softly, trying to reassure her. Whilst she seemed to calm down a little bit, she was still hyperventilating.
"Jayda, look at me." She turned her head towards me, tears forming in her eyes. "Just focus on me, okay? We're going to be alright. I won't let anything happen to you." I looked deep into her eyes as I said so.
Her breathing started to slow and regulate, and she wasn't trembling as much anymore. After about a minute, she was fine.
But she turned away from me.
"I-i'm sorry.. that was so embarrassing." She muttered quietly, but I heard her clearly.I held her hand tight and turned her head towards me. She had tears in her eyes, and she looked really embarrassed.
"Jayda, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. It happens." I tried to reassure her, but she didn't look convinced.
Knowing her, she was probably eating herself up inside, thinking the worst of herself."Remember that time when I got really mad at that guy for looking at you?"
She looked up at me and said, "Well, yeah.."
"I was so embarrassed after. I completely lost my temper, and you had to calm me down."
"That's different, though." She said, looking down.
"The point is that it happens, Jayda. We can't control our feelings or emotions, and it isn't anything to be embarrassed about. Isn't that what you told me?"
She looked up again. But this time, she really looked at me.
"You remember that?""Of course, I do. Why wouldn't I?" I said, smiling down at her.
A small smile formed on her lips.
"Thank you, Dimitri."
