Mckenzie practically skipped towards us.
Then her eyes landed on our joint hands.
In movies and books, the characters usually jump apart at a moment like this. I was glad that we didn't, because it made this moment so much better. I didn't even care anymore that we were interrupted.
"Oh, my gosh! Did I interrupt you guys? I'm so sorry!" She said with an awkward laugh. Dimitri let go of my hands after a few seconds, leaving me a little disappointed. "Dimitri, I just wanted to ask if I could come over today."
"Uhh–" He hesitated, searching my expression to see if I was okay with that.
I wasn't sure whether or not I was. I trusted Dimitri, and I knew that he wouldn't do anything with her that he shouldn't. But I didn't trust Mckenzie, especially not after I caught her subtle comment about going to his house yesterday.
"Actually, why don't I come over, too?" I suggested. I was proud of myself for thinking that up so quickly.
"Sure." Dimitri quickly replied.
And it was decided – I was coming over too.
"Okay, I'll see you later!" She skipped off.
"Dimitri, let's go." I began to walk off. My mood had soured because of Mckenzie and her chipper self. It would be better if she was just plain rude to me instead of acting nice.
"Wait, are you mad?" He grabbed one of my hands to stop me.
"I'm not mad, I just don't get why you're okay with her coming over in the first place. Where do you even know her from, because I know that you did not just meet her."
"She's an old neighbour. We used to hang out but she moved away. I was just trying to be nice since she's been gone for so long."
I appreciated him being honest with me instead of deflecting. Damn, our first day of being officially back together, and we were already having conversations like this.
"Well, can't you be nice another way? Preferably one that doesn't involve her inviting herself over to your house."
"I know it's annoying, but I'm the only one that she's familiar with here."
"I can introduce her to some of the girls. Then she'll have her own friends and stop bothering you."
He chuckled, finding amusement in my words. I don't know why, I was being serious.
"I'll try to stop being so lenient with her." He said, holding my hands back in his. He leaned down towards me and pressed his lips to mine.
He pulled away slowly, smiling down at me.
"You're off the hook for now." I teased, walking out of the classroom with him. We went back to the cafeteria and went to our respective groups.
I sat down next to Ariana, a girl in my friend group. She had wavy blonde hair and brown eyes and was really nice – I considered her a close friend. Paris wasn't on our table, so I assumed she was with Dae.
"Hi girls!" I smiled as I sat down, and everyone said hi back pleasantly. If you couldn't tell already, I was kinda the queen bee of the group. Actually, not 'kinda', I was the queen bee of the group. Even so, I considered all of them my friends – if I didn't, then they wouldn't be sat with me.
"Jayda, spill the tea. Are you and Dimitri back together?" A girl on my table, Sahar, asked. She was nice enough, but she was definitely a gossip. Sahar had raven black hair and hazel eyes, and always had the hottest gossip.
"Of course, girl."
They all erupted into giggles and gushing, and who could blame them? Dimitri and I were a great couple.
