It was the end of the school day, and I was waiting for Dimitri outside with Paris, filling her in on everything that happened with Sloane.
"Why was she touching your hair? What a creep. You're right, she desperately needs to get her own personality."
"Right? Then, at lunch, Sierra saw her flirting with Dimitri." Paris' jaw dropped dramatically.
"What? But everyone knows that you're back together!"
"I know! So then I—"
I told her everything else that happened, and we were both laughing by the end.
"Isn't that her over there?" I followed Paris' gaze and whadda-ya-know, it's Sloane.
She probably felt the daggers I was staring into her because she turned around and caught sight of us. Her face went pink, again, and she looked panicked for a second. Then, she started walking in our direction.
Oh, great.
Juuuust great.
"Hi Jayda, hi Paris!" She beamed. Her smile was so wide it almost looked forced.
"Hi Sloane." I said in monotone, showing my disinterest. Paris didn't even say anything and just looked at her.
"So about earlier.. I didn't mean to copy you, I just really love your style. And I didn't mean to make Dimitri uncomfortable – I wouldn't dream of it—"
"Except you did." I interrupted her mid sentence. "You did copy me, and you did make my boyfriend feel uncomfortable, and he doesn't deserve that."
Her smile faltered, and her shoulders fell and she began to splutter, "I didn't mean to— I'm sorry, I just really look up to you guys."
"Okay then. You're sorry." I said bluntly. She blinks at me, expecting me to say that it's okay like I did earlier. But it wasn't okay. It would've been if she'd left it at that, but she just had to come over, and all of my anger just came flooding back.
Dimitri finally came out of the gates and approached me, not noticing Sloane.
"Don't you have something to say?" I gestured towards Dimitri, who now noticed her. He didn't look too happy to see her, much to my amusement.
"Dimitri, I– I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable. You're just really amazing and I—" She would've started going on about how he's so great, but she remembered my presence and stopped herself, "— I just wanna be friends."
Friends.
The word rang annoyingly in my head.
"It's okay, Sloane, just try to tone it down a little. I'm fine with being friends, just remember to chill out." He said softly. Sometimes I wish he'd be a little more blunt.
She nodded, recovering quickly at Dimitri saying they could be friends, and skipped off. I rolled my eyes at her and turned to Paris.
"We're leaving now, I'll see you tomorrow." I gave Paris a quick hug and turned to Dimitri.
We walked to his car, and I started walking faster upon remembering that Mckenzie was also going to his house. He unlocked the car, and I got in before he could even blink. If Mckenzie was coming over, I at least wanted to get to spend some time with Dimitri before she came waltzing in.
"What's got you in such a rush?" He asked teasingly as he got in the car.
"Just want to spend time with you." I said as I strapped my seat belt like it was the most casual phrase in the world. But I didn't feel shy saying things like that to Dimitri – us dating now just felt like a continuation of our relationship before. I loved seeing him get all flustered and do that cute thing where he rubs his neck and seeing him smile with affection, like he was doing now.
