THE DOOR OPENED, revealing Renfield, who was about to get great very kindly. Valerie kicked him in the face, causing him to back away while he grabbed his nose, cursing at Valerie, who managed to jump out of the truck, but as she tried to get away Rafe's arms wrapped around her body. "You're okay." He whispered. "Please don't fight it."
Her breath began to slow down as she felt Rafe's arms around her, the sense of safety calming her down. Renfield tried to get her back for the kick, but Rafe stopped him. "Just get the cross." He spoke lowly.
Both of them slid the cross out of the truck, placing it vertically, so that Limbrey wouldn't have to sit on the floor to do what she wanted to do. Limbrey's eyes grew wide. "I don't believe it."
"I told you I'd get it for you, didn't I?" Renfield spoke with a devilish smirk plastered over his face.
"You said you would, and you did." Limbrey spoke as she walked closer to the cross, the sound of her crutches hitting the ground.
"Before we do this, I just wanted to remind you of the deal, okay?" Rafe said, walking over to Valerie, as if he was her body guard, making sure nothing would happen to her, or that she wouldn't do anything herself.
"You really are your father's son, aren't you?" Limbrey said. "Talking about deals at a moment like this."
Rafe's jaw clenched. "I showed you the mural. I get my cut."
"The deal is as we discussed, Rafe." She informed him.
"It better be."
"You'll get your cut."
All of their eyes were now pealed to the cross, watching as the gold shimmered under the light. Valerie's eyes scattered it, inspecting every detail, that she hasn't seen so far.
Limbrey dropped her crutches to the ground, while her hands found their way to the cross. "So beautiful."
"It doesn't belong to you." Valerie seethed.
Limbrey sighed, her eyes not leaving the cross. "Another word from your girlfriend, and I'll put a bullet in her head."
All of them grew quiet while Rafe stood infront of Valerie, a protective hand also keeping her away from them.
"Inside this cross is the shroud, and whoever touches the hem of the garment." Limbrey sniffled. "..shall be healed." She took the key out of her pocket, giving it a kiss and placing it into the key hole of the cross. "It's time for a miracle." She chuckled.
Valerie's jaw clenched, her body leaning forward trying to stop the old lady, although Rafe stopped her with warning eyes.
Limbrey struggled getting it to open. Renfield didn't hesitate to help her. "Here. Let me help you get it." His hand reached out for it but Limbrey quickly pulled it away. "No! It's meant for a Limbrey."
She finally got the lock, her whole body hesitating before reaching for it once again and pulling it open. Valerie couldn't help but lean over with Rafe, to see what would be inside.
It was empty. Only a single moth managed to fly out of the small hole. How on earth was a moth living in there?
Limbreys face fell at the sight of the empty box.
