Twenty Eight

Turns out, Cleo's bright idea backfired. Big surprise. All of them were now running for their lives back to the stone wall. The sound of cars and quads followed behind them until instead of cars, dogs have been released and running twice the speed they were.

All of them began yelling once they heard barking coming from behind them. Their speed had increased and now they were just praying that they would get to the other side in time.

Valerie turned her head, only realising how close the dogs were. „Oh shit! Good dog! Good dog! Please fuck off'!" She yelled while running.

They reached the wall and immediately JJ was first up. He reached down for Valerie, she took his hand without hesitation before getting pulled up. Pope had helped Cleo and John B had helped Sarah up before they got up themselves with JJs and Cleo's help.

Once Valerie checked to see if everyone was absent, her body relaxed and her back hit the wall. Deep and fast pants came from all of them as they calmed down.

„Series of bad decisions." John B sighed.

„What are you gonna do about Kiara?" Sarah mumbled before looking up at JJ. „We'll think of something, but we're not leaving her in there. Come on." He began to walk away from the wall. Valerie took a deep breath out, the thought of walking once again already killed her.

The sun slowly began to set as the group walked across the sand. Valerie's eyes were peeled to the waves that had been crashing into the sand, she couldn't help her thoughts wondering off to Rafe. She hadn't thought about him since the plane. Where could he have been this whole time? Was he looking for her?

„Cleo, do you actually know where we're going?" JJ's voice caused Valerie to escape her daily thoughts. „We can hold up here." Cleo pointed to an abandoned building not far from them. „It ain't the Taj Mahal, but..."

„It'll do." John B finished off.

„I get the biggest room." Cleo said teasingly. They began to walk to the building, but before Valerie could follow on, Pope stopped her. „Hey, you okay, Val?"

„Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?"

„Well, you've been quiet the whole way back." He pointed out.

„It's okay, Pope. I'm fine." She forced a smile before beginning to walk after the group with Pope. It didn't take them long to reach the building. The sound of quads would be heard from below them. Once they made sure the guards weren't after them, they made their way deeper into the building.

They went up some stairs, and some more until Cleo stopped. „We can stay here. It's an old hotel. Terrance and I squatted here before."

„Five stars." JJ sighed before making his way inside the room. Valerie and Sarah glanced at each other before walking slowly inside the room.

„Wa'cha step. Massive sinkhole." Cleo's words rang in Valerie's ears as she looked at the large hole in the floor.

„Oh. Home sweet home." Sarah said while plastering a fake smile on her face before making her way around the hole, Valerie quickly following along.

„We gotta get Kiara out guys. Does anyone have anything?" JJ spoke frustratedly, his whole body turning around to the rest of the group.

„Well we can't storm the fort. We can't call the cops." Pope began to list out.

„It's not helping Pope." JJ muttered.
