The sun is setting over the quiet village. Sonic, after a long day of thwarting Eggman's latest scheme, finally makes his way home, thinking he's left the weirdness of the day behind him. As he opens the door to his house, he tosses his shoes aside and yawns.
"Man, what a day. Shadow's been acting weirder than usual... I just need some sleep."
Sonic starts to relax, but as he turned around, his heart nearly jumped out of his chest. Shadow was standing right behind him, perfectly silent, staring with an intense expression.
"Whoa! Shadow! What are you doing here?"
"I'm watching over you."
Sonic blinked, trying to process what's happening. "Watching over me? Dude, I appreciate the whole 'bodyguard' thing, but I'm home. I can handle myself."
"No. I can't leave you unprotected. You're too important."
Sonic rubbed the back of his head awkwardly, glancing around. "Uh, okay, but don't you have your own place to crash? I mean, I don't really have a guest room or anything..."
Shadow doesn't budge, his crimson eyes fixed solely on Sonic. "I don't need to rest. You do. I'll make sure nothing happens to you while you sleep."
Sonic's expression falls into one of growing unease. He's dealt with Shadow being intense before, but this... this is on a whole new level. "Right... how about we put a pause on the whole 'guardian' thing? You don't have to stick around all the time, y'know?"
Shadow steps closer, his presence looming over Sonic like a shadowy shadow itself. His voice was low and shadowy. "I have to. No one else can protect you like I can. You're mine to protect."
Sonic's eyes widen at the word "mine," and he quickly raises his hands in a defensive manner, trying to calm the situation down.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! I'm nobody's! I can take care of myself just fine, Shadow. You've seen me do it a hundred times."
Shadow remains unfazed, his gaze still locked onto Sonic, a mixture of reverence and possessiveness in his tone. "I won't let anyone else get close to you. They don't understand your strength like I do. They don't deserve to."
Sonic was now visibly uncomfortable, tries to edge toward the couch, hoping that sitting down might somehow make this conversation less awkward. It doesn't work.
He nervously laughed. "Okay... you're taking this way too far, man. I'm just trying to catch some Zs here. You know, sleep? I don't need 24/7 surveillance."
Shadow's tone was calmly, but unyielding. "I'll watch over you while you sleep."
Sonic gulps, eyes darting toward the front door, mentally preparing an escape route. But before he can say anything, Shadow crosses his arms and stands at the foot of the couch like a sentry, completely serious.
"Uh... you really don't have to—"
"I do. You're the only one that matters."
Sonic gives an exaggerated sigh, plopping down on the couch, now too weirded out to argue further. He grabs a pillow and awkwardly lies down, pulling the blanket over himself.
"This is... officially the weirdest day of my life."
The room falls into an uncomfortable silence. Sonic tries to get some sleep, but every time he peeks one eye open, Shadow is there, standing vigilantly, his unwavering gaze locked onto Sonic.
Hours pass, and Sonic is tossing and turning, unable to shake the feeling of being constantly watched. He finally sits up, frustration bubbling over.
"Okay, seriously, this is getting creepy, Shadow. Do you ever blink?"
Shadow doesn't respond for a moment, his voice low and steady when he finally speaks. "I won't let anything happen to you. You belong to me, Sonic. I'll make sure no one else gets near you. Not Eggman, not your friends. No one."
Sonic's breath catches in his throat. The possessiveness in Shadow's tone sends a chill down his spine. "Wait... my friends? You're not thinking of—"
"They don't understand you like I do. They'll only get in the way. They're not worthy of you."
Sonic stares at Shadow, speechless for a moment. His heart beats faster as he realizes just how deep Shadow's obsession has become.
"Shadow, this isn't you. Whatever Eggman did to you, we can fix it! You don't have to—"
"There's nothing to fix. This is how it should be. I was blind before, but now I see clearly. You're everything, Sonic. You're mine."
Sonic jumps up from the couch, backing away as Shadow approaches, his voice dropping to a near whisper.
"Okay, now you're starting to freak me out."
Shadow's expression is calm, but there's an unsettling intensity behind his words.
"I'll never let anyone take you from me. Not even yourself."
Sonic is now in full defensive mode, trying to think of a way out. He glances toward the door again, wondering if a quick sprint could solve this. But before he can make a move, Shadow places a hand on the back of the couch, blocking Sonic's escape route.
"Rest, Sonic. I'll be right here."
Sonic's voice cracks with nervousness as he tries one last time to reason with Shadow.
"Look, man, I appreciate the concern, but this... this isn't normal! You're not acting like yourself. We're rivals, not—"
"We're more than that now. You'll see." Shadow said quietly.
With a sharp intake of breath, Sonic realizes there's no reasoning with Shadow in this state. He takes a step back, then another, his mind racing.
"I'll... figure this out in the morning. Gonna... sleep now. Alone."
Sonic moves cautiously to his bedroom, Shadow watching every move with unnerving intensity. As Sonic closes the door, he mutters under his breath.
"This is beyond messed up. Tails is gonna lose it when I tell him about this..."
Through the crack of the door, Sonic can see Shadow standing in the main room, his silhouette still and watchful. Even through the door, Sonic feels the weight of his gaze.
He sighs, flopping onto the bed, pulling the blanket over his head. "How am I gonna get out of this one..."
Sonic stayed lying awake, too nervous to sleep, knowing full well that Shadow is standing just outside, keeping watch like a complete weirdo. This was the weirdiest day in the history of weird. Maybe it's just a bad dream.. Yeh, it had to me..
