Sunlight filters through the window, casting warm beams across Sonic's bed. His eyes snap open after a restless night. He's barely slept, and his mind is racing, replaying the weird events of the previous day. He sits up slowly, stretching, hoping—just for a moment—that everything with Shadow was a bad dream. But the moment he opens his bedroom door...
Shadow is standing there. Right where Sonic left him.
"You're still here?" Sonic groaned.
Shadow was calm. "Of course. I told you, I'm not leaving you."
Sonic rubs his face, trying to wake up and figure out his next move. He's never dealt with something like this before. Sure, he and Shadow have had their share of battles, but this obsessive behavior? It's totally new.
"Gotta figure out what Eggman did to him and fast. There's no way I'm dealing with this all day." Sonic said, mostly to himself.
Sonic moves into the kitchen, trying to act casual as he grabs some food, but he can feel Shadow's gaze following his every move. It's unnerving.
"So, Shadow... how about we swing by Tails' place today? Y'know, just to... check in?"
"Why would you want to waste your time there? You don't need Tails. You don't need anyone." He said sharply.
Sonic flinches at the harshness in Shadow's voice, but he tries to keep things light. He knows he has to be careful; pushing Shadow too far might make things worse.
"Hey, relax. Tails is my buddy. He might be able to help me with, uh, something important."
Shadow steps closer, his intense presence making Sonic's heart race. There's an edge to Shadow's movements now, an unsettling possessiveness in the way he stands in Sonic's space.
"You don't need help from anyone else. I can do everything for you."
Sonic tries to stay calm, but there's something off in Shadow's tone—something darker, more dangerous than before. The effects of the potion must be getting worse.
"Yeah, well, you can't exactly fix what Eggman did to you. And trust me, you're not acting like yourself right now." He replied nervously.
Softly, Shadow began stepping even closer "I'm more myself than I've ever been, Sonic. I've never been more sure about what I want... or who I want."
Sonic's eyes widen. Shadow's voice has dropped into a edgy, almost intimate murmur, and there's no mistaking the intent behind his words. Sonic's pulse quickens, a knot forming in his stomach.
Sonic started backed up slightly. "Uh... you okay, Shadow? You're sounding kinda... intense."
Shadow follows him, his crimson eyes locking onto Sonic with a smoldering intensity that's almost suffocating "I see everything so clearly now. It's like everything else has fallen away. There's only you, Sonic. Only you."
Sonic's back hits the wall, and before he can think of a way out, Shadow is standing inches away, his gaze piercing through Sonic's defenses. "Okay, this is officially too much! You're not thinking straight, Shadow. I don't know what Eggman put in that potion, but you need to snap out of it! This isn't real!"
"It's more real than anything I've ever felt."
Sonic groans inwardly, realizing he's going to have to be a lot more careful from now on. "Alright, here's the deal. We're going to Tails. He's smart. He can figure out how to reverse this... whatever this is, and get you back to normal."
Shadow's expression darkens slightly at the mention of Tails again, but Sonic doesn't give him a chance to object. He zips to the door in a flash, already trying to create some distance between himself and Shadow.
"Come on, let's go. The faster we deal with this, the faster we can get back to... whatever it is we do."
Shadow hesitates for a moment, but then silently follows, his gaze never leaving Sonic. His loyalty is unquestionable, but so is the obsessive edge and edgyniess and edge to edge his demeanor.
