Douxie's POV

A strange street with beautiful town houses in different styles make a first impression. It looks to be a little before sunset, and the sky marbles in shades of light blue, orange, and pink. A soft breeze pushes strands of my hair. Even with the sun still out the streets seem to be completely empty. I focus on the town house right in front of me, across the street. Its tall tree makes shade for the side walk. A stair case leads up to the front door and a large window with dark red curtains keep anyone from seeing into the home. I walk close to see the window has flower pots filled with marigolds and forget-me-nots. Such pretty flowers.

I hear the hum of a car pull up next to the front of house, a red and beige Chevrolet. Azara steps out of it in gray wide led suit pants, a black vest, a matching short gray blazer and a small black sun hat. I can tell that her hair is pulled into a nice ponytail. She grabs her purse and a turquoise cardboard box. Her black heels make small tapping noises as she approaches the door of her house but when she come close enough to me, she passes right through me. I follow her up the stairs and she opens the door with a giant smile, bigger than I've ever seen. What will it take for her to smile like this again?

"Hello! Anyone home!?" she announces. She lays he purse near the front door, puts her har on the coat rack and heads to the kitchen. I hear someone run down the stairs from the second floor. She grabs to plates from the cabinet and sets them on the counter. She waits with a big smile while the person running down the stairs makes it to the kitchen. I'm not noticed so I just stand and watch.

A little boy with dark brown hair and eyes slides to be visible in the kitchen entry way. He smiles and runs towards Zara and hugs her legs with strength. He look to be around ten.

"Mama, you're home early!" he exclaims with happiness. Mama? Did he just call her Mama? He lets go and lets her crouch a little and he throws himself into her embrace.

"I wanted to surprise my little genius with donuts!" she informs.

"You brought donuts!?" he quickly rushes to the counter stools and sits on one. Azara goes behind the counter, passes him a plate and opens the box she brought in. In it are eight chocolate glazed donuts, four of them topped with sprinkles. The boy grabs one and starts eating it with a giant smile.

"I made a new discovery today!" he says with a mouthful. Azara leans into the counter.

"That's wonderful, finish that donut and you can show me." she instructs. Once he's done he puts the plate in the sink and grabs her hand dragging her up the stairs.

"Wait wait! Heels!" she laughs as she takes them off and they fall down some stair steps. I follow them to a cluttered but surprisingly organized room with a large table and round window on the back wall. The boy runs to the table pointing at a train set laid out in a circular way.

"I put magnets on the tracks and the toy train you got me, so when I put it on the tracks," he puts a train on the tracks and gives it a little push, "it keeps going by itself!" he excitedly shows her. Damn, this kid made this thing before they even invented it. Wait it is the 50's, right? I look around for a calendar and sure enough, June, 12, 1953.

"This is amazing, Kaleb! I'm so proud of you!" Azara exclaims. Kaleb, like the kid from the park. She inspects the model and puts her hands on her hips and smirks at the kid. She faces him now that he's sitting on the floor.

"You know, you could be a great inventor when you grow up." she says proudly.

"Yeah! And I'm gonna make cool inventions to help people. Just like you, Mama!" he pulls into Azara's chest and hugs her.
