The day after was Saturday. Everyone was on edge– as they always were nowadays. No one knew if the Slytheirn captain was playing.
She was still in a lot of pain according to all of the Slytherins and no one knew how that would affect the season. James was one of the most worried, "Prongs, you didn't do it to her," Peter reassured him as they walked to the pitch. The boy was practically bouncing with anxiety.
"No, but if people found out that we were involved– it'll look like I just took out the competition right after our game!" James insisted. He wanted to win, but he wanted to win on his terms. A fair win.
He kept glancing to Sirius to get his opinion, but instead it was just Remus, looking at the ground guilty like he always did when they mentioned Snape or Cassie. "Mate, come on, it's not your fault–"
"She said it was hers," Remus spoke up, looking at James curiously. Both boys looked at him confused.
"What?"
"Cassie, when she was yelling at her boyf–not boyfriend apparently, she said that Sirius didn't hurt her– that she did that of her own free will. Why would she say that? Is she not mad at him?" Remus asked them. It had been plaguing his thoughts all night, he had hardly gotten any sleep and the next full moon was just a few days away. If she could forgive him for almost killing her and her friends– could Remus forgive him– no– no he shouldn't.
"I don't know mate, girls– are girls," James shrugged, he didn't even want to try and understand it.
Remus shook his head, "yeah, you're right, thanks Prongs."
"You're welcome?" James told him and Peter and him shrugged to each other as they separated for Peter and Remus to head to the commentator's stand with the teachers.
James made his way into the stand and got a good seat. The wind was blowing strong and there was a desperate chill in the air. He pulled his jacket tighter around him as he waited for both teams to come out.
There were loud whispers about Slytherin– who would be subbing in? Would they be as good? Would it be Greengrass or Crouch?
Soon, there were dozens of people next to him, including other Gryffindors. He smirked, seeing a bright red head walk over with her little group of friends, talking about one of their assignments, "Hey, Lilyflower! Wanna go to Hogsmeade with me?" He winked at her and she scoffed.
"No, thank you." It was a little sting to his heart each time, but it was getting less and less harsh.
He chuckled and kept his cocky demeanor, "I'll get you to agree one day."
Lily rolled her eyes, "in your dreams, Potter."
"It is," he whispered to himself, staring as the red-head walked further up the stands. "It really is." He turned back to the pitch sadly. He usually had Sirius and Frank for the games he wasn't playing. Or at least some of his other friends if they had detention, but it seems everyone was gone.
It wasn't just Remus who felt alone– or Sirius. It was James, it was Peter, it was Frank, it was everyone who was affected. They felt it was hard to be together. There was always something preventing it. Some guilt from one party or another.
Now, James sat there, surrounded by people, but felt more alone than he ever had at Hogwarts.
"WELCOME EVERYONE TO THE SLYTHERIN VS RAVENCLAW MATCH!" Peter announced, his voice amplifying all around the pitch so that everyone could hear him. Responding was a loud cheer from everyone in the stands. "LETS SEE OUR TEAMS! CAPTAIN DAVIS–" His voice started to sound drowned out to James. The cheers just kept coming as Ravenclaw flew by on the sides and down to the bottom.
