✾_________CHECKING OFF the list of preparations with Anri, Kiomi was satisfied to see that all that was left for the day was welcoming the strikers.

After a whole week of running around the newly finished buildings, ordering workers around to ensure everything was in place, and fixing any issues that came up, Kiomi was relieved that she could finally rest.

Her final task of the day was to stand at the door and welcome any wandering teenagers, collect their prized belongings, and give them their Blue Lock uniforms. Anything else they needed, they could find in their team rooms.

"You'll be responsible for Building 3," Anri informed her with an innocent smile. Despite Ego's insistence that buildings shouldn't be numbered, the sisters found it much easier for organization if they had some way to identify the different buildings. So, they decided to name them in the order they were completed.

"Oh, and take this," Anri handed Kiomi a small box, wrapped in cute decorative paper with various cats on it. A red bow tied around the box made Kiomi even more curious.

"If you run out, I've got more in my office," Anri added. Now, Kiomi was even more confused. At first, she thought it might be a perfume, but that didn't make any sense.

"What... is this?" she asked cautiously, holding up the box and not daring to open it. Knowing her sister, it was either something entirely stupid and pointless or borderline illegal—nothing in between.

"Nothing much. Just making sure you stay safe while working here. We'll be in completely different buildings, so I won't be around to protect you." Anri knew Kiomi could handle herself, but she still gave in to her big-sister instincts.

Kiomi raised an eyebrow. She quickly unwrapped the paper and found a gray box with 'pepper spray' written on it. "Really?" she asked, giving Anri a blank stare.

"I wanted to give you a taser, but Ego reserved the electrical shocks for himself," Anri replied, a bit too cheerfully.

"What—?"

"Get out. Don't want to be late now, do you?" Anri practically shoved Kiomi out of the storage room and handed her a list of the players assigned to Building 3.

Standing outside the now-closed door, Kiomi sighed heavily before making her way outside. The buildings were enormous, each containing several training rooms and even stadiums, so the distance between them was anything but short.

Glancing at her phone, she saw she had about 45 minutes to get to the building she'd be overseeing. It was enough time, but she wasn't keen on starting work the moment she arrived. Silently, she prayed that the bus would arrive as late as possible.

It was already two in the afternoon. The sun was blazing down on the warm asphalt, and Kiomi didn't have any water with her.

Motivated to get to the building as soon as possible, Kiomi put on her headphones and started speed-walking toward her destination. After a hellishly boring and strenuous half-hour, she finally arrived. Each building had its own room and office for her use.

Anri had her own as well. Since both of them were responsible for the players and their needs, they needed a place to stay in every building. The other workers were instructed to stay away from the players as much as possible—hide from them, even.

Kiomi understood the reason for that, but it just made her job more bothersome. She only hoped the incoming teenagers wouldn't be as insufferable as the boys her age she'd had to share classes with.
