Tightening the hairband I looked menacingly at Xavion, he was standing in front of the obstacle course where I had been training for the past weeks.

Akolyn was watching intently, he was done cooking our lunch and was waiting for us to finish.

"Enough tying your hair and grab your weapon!" He shouted as he nonchalantly held his.

I picked up my cane and held it tightly, getting used to the weight of it, swinging it easily as I jumped up the log slicing through Akolyn's shadow-made enemies.

At first, they squared me one by one, but when I gained momentum, Akolyn controlled them so they could attack me altogether. It almost threw me off the log, but it's a good thing, the Luminara was caught in the body of the shadow that stopped me from falling.

Balance became my number one priority when it came to fighting, I never wanted to go back to losing my steps and stumble to the ground.

"AHHHHH!" I screamed, as I jumped off the log and landed in front of him.

A playful smirk laced his lips as he swung his weapon on his shoulder. "Very resourceful." He commented and circled me.

I listened to his body, any moment I could feel it, he could attack me now.

"Since you have your blight, it's only a matter of time." He stopped his sentence, he knew how hard the topic was for me. "Then you have to master feeling your enemy without Circe."

I couldn't imagine feeling and living without Circe. I mean, I'll die when she's gone but—

"Focus Xianne! Don't let your weeks of training to waste!" He screamed into my ears making me flinch.

"YOU CAN DO THIS XIANNE! I've placed my bet on you!"

"I can hear you—WITCH!" Xavion said and without warning, Xavion lunged, his blade moving with terrifying speed. I parried just in time, the clang of metal vibrating through my arms. The force of his blow sent a shock through me, but I held my ground, digging my heels into the dirt and pushing back.

"You're stronger," he remarked, his voice almost playful.

"Don't underestimate me," I shot back, spinning the Luminara in a fluid motion, swinging it toward his side. Channeling my cane to switch into a blade, Xavion blocked it with ease, his sword meeting my blade with a satisfying clang.

He was toying with me, I could tell. His strikes, though precise, weren't at full power. The glint in his eyes was playful but calculated, testing me, challenging me. I couldn't tell if he was distracted or just trying to push me past my limits.

I internally sighed, it's been days we've been having this mock battle and I'm not even at half of his power.

I pivoted, spinning low and sweeping my cane toward his legs. He leaped over it effortlessly, his movements graceful, almost predatory. His muscles rippled with every turn, every strike, his body moving with a grace I hadn't noticed before.

"Faster, Xianne!" Akolyn called from the sidelines, his eyes gleaming with amusement. "You're not a wolf; you don't have the luxury of holding back!"

Xavion advanced again, this time quicker, his sword a blur as he aimed for my chest. I blocked it, barely, the impact sending me staggering back a step.

He did not wait for me to get back at my feet and jumped to pin him on the ground, I rolled and ran backward, still facing him to create distance.

The air between us was charged with a crackling energy—something more than just the heat of battle. It was in the way he watched me, the way our bodies moved in perfect sync, pushing and pulling in a relentless dance of combat.

"Is that all you've got?" I taunted, trying to mask my heavy breathing.

A smirk tugged at his lips. "You tell me."

I feinted left, hoping to catch him off guard, but Xavion was too quick. He sidestepped effortlessly, his sword coming down toward my shoulder. I barely managed to roll out of the way, he pushed me out of the way of his sword.

"Still sloppy." He snickered, I came up behind him and swung the Luminara toward his back.

But he was already turning, anticipating my move. His sword clashed with my blade, the force reverberating through my arms. Our faces were inches apart now, and I could feel his breath hot against my skin. His scent—wild and earthy—was distracting in ways I didn't want to admit.

"You're getting better," he murmured, his voice low and smooth. There was something in his tone, something that made my heart race faster than it should in a fight.

"And you're still holding back," I countered, pushing harder against his blade.

He grinned, his eyes gleaming with a dangerous light. "Am I?"

Before I could respond, he spun me around, disarming me in one swift motion. I hit the ground hard, my back colliding with the dirt. Xavion loomed over me, his sword pointed at my chest. The weight of his presence, the heat of his body, was suffocating and exhilarating all at once.

"You're holding back, Xavion," I spat, struggling to catch my breath, glaring up at him. "Why?" It was my turn to challenge him.

I didn't want him to hold back, I've been training now, and if I need and he wants me t get better, then he must fully use his power. Who knows how am I going to do, I may sacrifice my health, but if it's for the sake of my life, I'm willing to do it.

His expression flickered, something unspoken passing between us. For a moment, his guard dropped—just for a second—but it was enough.

I surged upward, twisting out of his reach and grabbing the Luminara from the ground. In a single fluid motion, I spun on my heel, aiming the cane straight at his side. Xavion barely blocked in time, but the impact sent him staggering back.

For the first time, I saw a surprise flash across his face.

"You're getting predictable," I teased, stepping closer, pressing the advantage.

He chuckled, shaking his head, his eyes never leaving mine. "Maybe you're just getting better." It may be praise, but I liked him better when he taunted me.

We clashed again, faster and harder, the air thick with tension. Every move, every strike, was a test, not just of our skills but of something deeper. There was something—something I cannot put a name on—a pull between us. I do not know if he can feel it, or if he doesn't want to acknowledge it.

But for me, I know it, I can feel it. I just need him to say something...
