As I heard those words, it felt as if my life had just turned 360 degrees. My heart hurt, and my eyes ached to cry, to ask why I had been kept in the dark all these years. Which means I was never truly Ayaan Kapoor. But if I'm not Ayaan Kapoor, then who am I?
Who am I? All these years, I've been living in a deception of lies. Why did this happen to me? My very identity is now a question.
"D...Dad, don't lie, please," I said, my voice breaking and begging, while he laughed evilly.
"Don't show me that begging face of yours. This is your truth, Ayaan. You are not a Kapoor. You never were," he said, looking at me. I glanced at my tigress, and she was in tears, sobbing. Never in my life have I seen her cry this much. She's bearing all this stress and pain because of me. I am the reason for everyone's suffering and problems.
"I wanted to kill you because my idiot son named all his shares and property in your name. He gave you all the authority," Ajay Kapoor said, clenching his jaw in anger. My eyes were downcast, weighed down by all the lies I had been living.
I tried to say "Dad," but the word stopped in my throat. I couldn't call him that. He never was my father. I only felt anger and pain, but more than anything, I felt pity for myself.
"Listen to your truth, you piece of shit," he spat, and I saw Kiana struggling to break free. I wanted to calm her, but I was too tongue-tied myself.
"You bastard! Untie me, and I'll show you who's the real piece of shit!" she said, rage blazing in her eyes. She was looking at him like the moment she got free, Ajay Kapoor would be dead, drenched in his own blood.
"Shut the hell up, bitch! Or it won't take me a second to kill you. I know you're eager to die, but first, let me tell your husband his real identity," he said to Kiana. She looked at me, and I longed to be in her arms, to cry in her arms, to breathe her in, to hold her close so she could fix me, just like she always does.
"I forced your mother to marry me because her parents were filthy rich. Eventually, I had to kill them. But your mother was in love with someone else. I had to keep her at gunpoint to marry me so I could get all the wealth her parents left her. And, well, I won't deny she was beautiful. After we got married, she started to adjust because I threatened her that if she didn't, I'd kill her so-called lover too. After Darsh was born, I found out she was still meeting that fucker in secret, and she was pregnant with you. I wanted her to abort you, but she begged me, and I agreed—on the condition that she would never meet your real father again. Your father eventually got married and had another son, which makes him your younger stepbrother," Ajay Kapoor said. My throat constricted, and everything felt like it was slipping from my hands. A lone tear escaped my eye.
"Want to know your real identity?" he asked, mocking me with a wicked grin. My hands clenched, my jaw tightened, and my eyes burned with anger.
"Your name is Ayaan Dawson. Your brother's name is Axel Dawson," he said, and I realized I had heard that name before. Of course, I knew Axel Dawson—he's made headlines for his incredible success at such a young age. He owns a fashion brand, Dawson Enterprises.
