The doctors had been operating for two hours, while I stood there helpless, watching her lie lifelessly. Every fiber of my being screamed at me to run to her, to hold her in my arms, to protect her from every ounce of pain.

But I am the reason for her pain.

I closed my eyes, and the only thing I could think of was God. When everything is against you, only God remains by your side.

"Adi, stay here with everyone. I'll be back," I said, giving him a reassuring look despite his obvious worry.

"Take care of them," I added, and he nodded. Without another word, I left the hospital and got into my car, driving straight to the nearest temple. Within minutes, I arrived, discarded my shoes, and walked in, ringing the bell as I stepped inside.

"Beta, are you hurt?" the panditji asked, noticing my shirt drenched in Kiana's blood. I shook my head, my throat tight with unspoken words.

"Aankhon mein aansu hai, chehre pe udaasi. Kya hua beta?" he asked gently, and a lone tear spilled down my cheek.

(Your eyes are filled with tears, and your face is pale. What happened, child?)

"Maine galti kardi, panditji. Aur mera pyaar meri galti ki sazaa bhugat raha hai. Mein uske bina kuch nahi hoon," I said, folding my hands before him.

(I've committed a sin, and my love is paying for it. I am nothing without her.)

"Jab woh yaha tak laaye hai, toh kuch soch kar laaye hai. Mere saamne haath mat jodo, unke saamne jodo. Jab saare raste band ho jaate hain, tab sirf bhagwaan hi sahyata kar sakte hain. Aur apne pyaar se bichadne ke dukh ko inse zyada kaun jaan sakta hai? Sati ke Shiv hain woh, pyaar se maango, tumhaare pyaar ko woh de denge tumhe," he said, looking at Shivji. I walked toward the idol and fell to my knees, hands clasped tightly together.

(When He brings you this far, He does so for a reason. Don't fold your hands before me, but infront of him. When all paths close, only God can help. And who knows the pain of losing a loved one more than Him? He is Sati's Shiva—ask with love, and He will return your love to you.)

"Shivji, maine bohot galtiyan ki hain, par aap please mere pyaar ko bacha lijiye. Main uske bina jee nahi paunga. Aap toh samajhte hain apne pyaar se door hone ka dard, usse peedha mein dekhne ka dard. Please, meri Kiana ko bacha lijiye."

(Shivji, I've committed many sins, but please save my love. I can't live without her. You understand the pain of being separated from your love, of seeing them in agony. Please save my Kiana.)

"Please give my love back to me. I promise I will never give her a reason to be angry or upset. I won't repeat my mistakes, Shivji. I will never bring a tear in her eyes. Please," I begged, my heart aching as I knelt before him.

"Utho, beta," panditji said, placing a hand on my shoulder. I looked up at him, my face streaked with tears. I wiped my eyes.

"When you ask for your love with a pure heart, He gives it to you. And He is Bhole Nath—by now, He has already forgiven you, seeing your pain," Panditji said softly, and I nodded.
